Hi all,

I am having problems with a GPRS modem based on Siemens MC35 connected to a PC via serial port. Every now and then the modem freezes and the only way to get it back on line is to power cycle it. The PC is configured to automatically stablish the connection to internet using the modem, both in start-up and whenever the conection is dropped. When the modem freezes and the PC tries to reconnect, the connection sequence proceeds until the "registering device in network" phase, and then it fails to continue.

I would appreciate receiving any help on this, because we hace already installed 6 of such modems and I am getting worried that the same is going to happen in all of them.

Hi Santiago,

This is the support forum for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway product. Are you using NowSMS? It sounds like you might be using these modems for general internet connectivity rather than for NowSMS.

There is an update for NowSMS v5.51 that can be downloaded from the link http://www.nowsms.com/download/latestpatch.zip. One of the features of this update is that it takes extra steps to try to get a non-responsive modem to recover. We've had positive feedback from customers who were previously experiencing occasional modem hangups (especially those that were sending/receiving MMS with MM1 via GPRS, where NowSMS has to switch between SMS and GPRS mode frequently).

Unfortunately, if you aren't running NowSMS, I don't know what to suggest.
