Hi Raksa,

What is your SMSC connection?

I'm guessing that it is an SMPP connection?

Are you able to send long text messages (messages longer than 160 characters) from the NowSMS web interface ok?

I'm guessing that you would also have a problem sending long text messages, because port addressing has some of the same user data header issues as long text messages.

Unfortunately, the SMPP specifications are not clear on how these messages should be encoded ... so different providers have different expectations.

If the resulting SMS message is complete garbage whenever you send a long text message, and you are using an SMPP connection to your SMS service provider, go into the "Advanced Settings" for your SMPP connection configuration in NowSMS. Try changing the "Encode long text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" setting to a different value to see if this makes a difference.

If that setting doesn't address the problem, there is also a "Use TLV Parameters for Port Numbers + Segmentation" ... and some providers expect you to use that setting.

If you're not using an SMPP connection, or long messages are ok, but port addressed messages are not, then please tell me more about your SMSC connection.

Hi Raksa,

Before I offer any more suggestions, can you confirm that you are using an SMPP provider?

It may be possible that your SMPP provider does not support binary messages.

You should try each of the above settings (3 different), restarting the NowSMS service after applying the settings each time.

Forget about port addressing for these tests. Just try sending a long text message.

Try each of these 3 different ways:

1.)
"Encode long text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" - CHECKED
"Use TLV Parameters for Port Numbers + Segmentation" - NOT CHECKED

2.)
"Encode long text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" - NOT CHECKED
"Use TLV Parameters for Port Numbers + Segmentation" - NOT CHECKED

3.)
"Encode long text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" - NOT CHECKED
"Use TLV Parameters for Port Numbers + Segmentation" - CHECKED

Hi Des!
I used SMPP Provider.

I have tryed the 3 different ways above but i can not still sent SMS with port or long text SMS.

When i used GSM Modem, i can send SMS with port and long text SMS.

I really need to send SMS by SMPP.

Could you please tell how i can check my SMPP provider that allow me to send SMS with port?

Thanks,
Raksa

Hi Raksa,

Unfortunately, I think you need to ask your provider for assistance.

I am not aware of any other encoding techniques/options that could be used.

Unfortunately, it is possible that your provider does not support this capability.

At this point, it is best to ask them if they can support sending long SMS messages of larger than 160 characters. If they can, please ask them for an SMPP trace showing a long text message being submitted to their system.

(I suggest asking about long messages because they are more likely to understand this ... they might not understand port addressing.)
