Usually there is another error message that is displayed before this one. It indicates the specific error that occurred. However, if there is no error message displayed before "Unable to access modem, ensure that it is powered on and passes diagnostic tests", then this suggests that you are configured to connect to the modem as a COM port (e.g., COM1: instead of a named modem driver). If you experience this error condition when configured to connect directly to a COM port, then this indicates that another application has opened up access to the modem. And only one application can have the modem port open at a time. Nokia's PC Suite software is notorious for periodically scanning ports and grabbing modem ports. What is the modem, and how is it connected to the PC? (And if you do not want to remove the modem from the list, hit Cancel.) |
