Hi there, is anyone being successful installing now sms v5.01 with Fastrack M1206B-ON ?

It works before with Fastrack M1203A.

The problem is when we add a gsm modem it says unable to detect the modem.

Cheers.

Hi,

Is the exact error message "Unable to access modem, ensure that it is powered on and passes diagnostic tests"?

If that is the case, then this suggests that NowSMS is not able to open the port that you specified.

Are you connecting to the modem by COM port number, or by named modem driver?

If you are attempting to connect to the modem by COM port number (e.g., COM2:-), then this indicates that Windows would not allow NowSMS to open the port. Only one application can have a port open at a time, so it could be an issue that another application has the COM port open.

I would suggest that you try opening the COM port using HyperTerminal, and verify that you are able to connect to the port, and try sending an ATZ command out to the modem from HyperTerminal, and make sure that an OK response comes back.

If you are trying to connect to a named modem driver (as opposed to a COM port number), then go into the Windows Control Panel, Phone & Modem Options, select the modem, press Properties, Diagnostics, and Query Modem to verify that the modem driver is configured properly. Also, if you are trying to connect to a named modem driver, I would expect another error message to be displayed before the one that I referenced above, so if this is the case, please advise of the other error message that is displayed.

Hi Harry,

Are you saying that your internal modem is COM3?

Normally, a serial port on your computer would be COM1 or COM2.

Hook the modem up to the serial port, and then connect to the COM port with hyperterminal, trying both COM1 and COM2 to try to find the modem. If you type ATZ and enter into a HyperTerminal session, and an OK response comes back, then you are talking to a modem. (Any type of modem, more specific tests are necessary to determine if it is a GSM modem.)

Once you know the port, you can go into Phone & Modem Options in the Control panel, and associate a modem driver with it. I don't believe that Wavecom publishes a driver specific to their modems, but the "Standard 19200 bps Modem" driver seems to work well.

From NowSMS, configure NowSMS to connect to the appropriate COM port, or to a named modem driver. (If you will be using the MMS over GPRS functionality of NowSMS, you must used a named modem driver, but connecting directly to the COM port will work fine for SMS functionality.)

The Fastrack M1206B-ON comes factory preset at 115K. Open the com port using e.g. Hyperterminal and reconfigure the modem using AT +IPR=9600 followed by AT &W to set it to 9K6.
