I'm using NowSMS with 6 modems: - 3 Samba 75 GSM Modems - 3 Option Icon 322 3G Modems When the machine is rebooted, Windows assigns new names to my Icon 322 modems (adding #4, #5,...) or swaps #2 and #3... This doesn't happen with my Samba 75 modems. Obviously, this causes troubles to NowSMS: at best you send messages using an unexpected modem (sim card); at worse, the modem is simply disconnected from NowSMS. Has anyone come accross such problem? Thanks, Stephane

Hi Stephane, I've seen at least one previous report of similar problems. I wish I could make this problem happen on one of our PCs so that I could try to troubleshoot it and have first hand experience with it. Something appears to be going wrong with the driver initialisation in Windows. So the first thing I'd suggest is trying to update the modem driver. I've got 2 different machines with ICON 322 modems in them, and am running v4.0.6.1. (You can check the version in the Windows device manager.) Checking the Option web site, their latest driver version is v4.0.17.0, so it appears my driver version is old. (Unfortunately, I don't have an archive of the driver version that I'm running.) Here's the link for the latest drivers: http://www.option.com/en/support/software-download/usb-modems/icon322/ It's also possible that there are some power issues on your USB hubs. Swapping modems to different ports could possibly resolve the issue. (Remove all modem drivers before re-installing on different ports, otherwise you'll have more driver duplication.) Are you using built-in USB ports or an external powered hub? Or combination? I'd swap the ports for 3 modems of each brand with the other current ports for the other brand and see if the problem follows ports or modems. (Again, remove modem drivers before doing this so that you don't end up with more duplicate drivers.) -- Des NowSMS Support

I don't know if something's wrong with the driver, at least even with the modem name change, each time NowSMS was able to send/receive SMSes. About the driver versions: I initially had v4.0.6.1, then I upgraded to the latest v4.0.17.0, and the behavior is unchanged. These modems were connected to a external powered D-Link USB2 Hub. To make sure it's not the hub, I plugged all modems to the machine's USB ports directly. Same result. Next I will try to swap modem brands / ports to see if the problem follows ports or modems. Thanks, Stephane |
