How to manage Outbound SMS/MMS Queue

For example:
I want to add a delay/timeout on Outbound SMS/MMS Queue

• Sample Condition 1: If the queued message fails it will not retry sending it and proceed to the next queued message

• Sample Condition 2: If the queued message fails for 3 retries it will stop sending the message and proceed to the next queued message

I want to know how to manage this? Im just wondering what if there is too many queued messages? the system will be slow sending messages if it will not manage well

Yes,.. this is something we also are interested in.. i.e. Setting an expiry on an Outbound message if there is a problem on the SMPP to SMSC / Modem. It could be number of retries or max time limit or a combination of both.

Hi Huwad,

quote:

• Sample Condition 1: If the queued message fails it will not retry sending it and proceed to the next queued message

This is the way it works by default.

quote:

• Sample Condition 2: If the queued message fails for 3 retries it will stop sending the message and proceed to the next queued message

By default, NowSMS will retry up to 20 times, increasing the time delay before retry after each failure. It is, of course, possible to modify the maximum number of retries, and the delay interval that is applied before retries.

Also note that, particularly in SMPP environments, there are some errors that NowSMS interprets as a permanent rejection which should not be retried.

The following article explains these parameters. The SMPP specific parameters are explained first, the general retry related parameters are explained toward the end.

But if the SMPP line is down, does the Gateway count it as a "RETRY" while trying to process it.

Hi,

I don't know enough about your configuration.

What type of SMSC connection are you using?

Look for the log file SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG (example SMSOUT-20121230.LOG), this will display information about outbound message delivery attempts. What does it show?
