the sms file in the sms-in directory writes this:

[SMS-IN]

FUNNY THING WITH THE M1.
if i send an ordinary sms message it thinks its somekind of binary thing.
look at this sms file from the sms in directory:

[SMS-IN]
Sender=
PhoneNumber=61672158
pid=50
dcs=72
Data=1D9683DA6F323D7C2ED3416537489866B3CB647179BE2E935DA06919442EBB41F0705807BADFEF2E3A79DC7E8BD36C1779FD32A7DD64719ACD2E93C5E5F9BA4C0625893A5A4E269381A049A72E1E869DCBF91928689E97DDE4B21C5496EB56B49A0C6783C170B71C685A0691CB6E50DA4D2EBB753318881C3E9701

Bizarre.

On the inbound side, we did just recently encounter a problem with a Sierra Wireless AirCard 750 that is not encoding the "Sender Address" field correctly, causing messages to be interpreted incorrectly.

As that is quite a common modem, we're in the process of implementing a configuration option to address the problem. I wonder if that is the same problem that you are encountering on the inbound message?

I'd have to see the SMSDEBUG.LOG to know for sure ... specifically the +CMGL data that comes in before the message is parsed.

I'm stumped on the sending problem.

Wait ... I've got an idea. Based on the error that is coming back, the modem definitely understands the AT command set for sending SMS messages.

But after we submit the message data it comes back with the text "ERROR" (normally I'd expect more information).

The Siemens M1 is an older device, isn't it?

I bet it requires the SMSC address to be manually configured, instead of reading it from the SIM.

Put the SIM card into a regular phone, and go into SMS settings on the phone to determine the SMSC phone number.

Manually edit SMSGW.INI, and under the section header that corresponds to your modem (if you don't see a section [Modem - "name here"], then on the "SMSC" page of the configuration dialog, select "Properties" for the modem, and add its phone number, so that the section gets created in the INI file), add:

SMSC=+phonenumber

The SMSC address should be an international phone number, starting with "+".

See if that makes a difference.

In the olden days, we used to have a more prominent config option for this setting ... but these days the phone/modem reads it automatically from the SIM, and it seemed to cause more trouble with people filling in this field with invalid values, so we hid it.

Ok Bryce i will try that.
Meanwhile i just got my hands on another oldie. A V.Dot Origo 900.
Win2k registers it as "unknown modem".
In Nowsms u add a modem using COM1.
And then..
IT WORKS
I cansend mms, and nowsms downloads the mms file and packs it out.

YEAH!
This is great. I can make so many new services now.

I have ordered a new Siemens MC35 with GPRS wich should be arriving within 14 days..
