Bryce can u answer to my following queries. The question was asked couple of times by different but was not addressed.

I am facing the problem using the trial version of NowSMS 5.51a 20050207.
1. Was able to send a long text message via NowSMS Web Interface if the Option is unchecked ( Send Long Text Messages using 7-bit encoding ), using the SMPP interface to the SMSC. However when a SMPP client connected to NowSMS sent a message received a single garbled message.
2. When I checked the option ( Send Long Text Messages using 7-bit encoding ) I can receive the long message but as two separate messages not concatenated.
3. Am connected to a GSM service provider does the TDMA network support Long Concatenated Text Messages or not

I don't have an explanation for that.

It sounds like the SMS service provider might be routing the separate parts of the sent message via different SMSC routes. This could cause the receiving client to see the message as two separate messages.

Can your provider offer any guidance on this issue?

In another thread, someone mentioned that their provider wanted them to use optional TLV parameters to signal when a multipart message is being sent. That is not something that we currently support, but we'll be adding an option for this in about a week or two, so we could see if that makes a difference.

I don't think that the TDMA networks supports long concatenated messages.

Thankyou for the reply. Shall I send you the debug logs for you to check. The SMSC is of Logica and CMG. We want to have support for Long Text Messages over Logica and CMG SMSC and require your help in that.

Sorry for the delay in response, but yes, I think I would need to see the debug logs in order to understand.

In particular, I think I would need to see the SMPPDEBUG.LOG in order to see the data that the SMPP client is submitting.

If NowSMS can send long text messages ok, then it sounds like NowSMS does not understand the encoding that the SMPP client is using.

Edit any passwords out of the log, and post it here as an attachment. I would like to see both SMPPDEBUG.LOG and SMSDEBUG.LOG. Or you can send the log files to nowsms@now.co.uk. Put "Attention: Bryce" in the subject line, and reference this discussion board thread.

Follow-up: In NowSMS v5.51b, there is a configuration option for SMPP connections, to tell NowSMS to use optional SMPP TLV (tag/length/value) parameters for signaling that a long text message is segmented over multiple physical messages. (The parameter appears under "Advanced Settings" when you configure an SMPP connection. And it is titled "Use TLV parameters for port numbers and segmentation".

It may be worth trying that setting in conjuction with the following option UNchecked: Send Long Text Messages using 7-bit encoding.

More info on v5.51b can be found at http://www.nowsms.com/whatsnew.htm.
