Hi,

Android's user interface can be a little confusing (to put it mildly).

Let me address this issue in two parts.

1.) Removing/resetting an accidentally pressed "use by default".

I assume that when you wanted to send a contact, you checked "Use by default for this action", and selected "Messaging". ("Messaging" is the SMS & MMS application.)

To clear this, you need to go to "Settings". Select "Applications", then "Manage Applications".

From there, jump to the "All" list, and locate "Messaging".

Scroll down and you will find a section titled "Launch by Default". Press the "Clear Defaults" option, and this will have the effect of undoing the accidental "use by default" setting.

This will remove the "use by default" ... but when you try again and get a list of options, you won't get an option to send only the phone number and contact name ...

That brings us to part 2 ...

2.) If you use "Send via" or "Send Contact" from the menu, it wants to send the complete contact details in a vCard (whether you do it through Messaging/MMS, Bluetooth or eMail).

However, if you "long press" down on a contact and hold it down (instead of a quick press), then you will get a pop-up menu with a "Send Contact Information" option. If you select this option, it will send the message the way that you want it to be sent ... a simple text message with just contact name and phone number.

P.S. - A side note ... I tried the same thing in the latest version of Android (4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich). In that version of Android, I couldn't figure out any way to send a contact via SMS or MMS with the Messaging application!

The "Share" option for a contact only gives options of via e-mail or Bluetooth. The "long press" option on the contact only works if you highlight a specific phone number, and only gives the option to copy the phone number (not the name) to the clipboard. You can then switch to the messaging application and paste the number. If you need to send the name to, it looks like you have to retype it. :(

As much as other things in Android 4.0 are improved, I'm surprised they got rid of this basic functionality (unless I've missed a setting somewhere).
