Hi we need to send a flash sms through the SMPP interface. I think I have a very limited SMPP configuration available - but I'm not sure, as this is my first time with nowsms I would like to do one of two things: - configure the nowSMS SMSC to send all SMPP messages as flash - configure the NowSMS SMSC to send all SMPP messages from that system(IP) as flash I have the following configuration parameters available( Name : Options ): SMPP Version: v3.3 v3.4 ESME Type of Number (TON): 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 ESME Numbering Plan Identity (NPI): 0 1 3 4 6 8 9 10 14 18 Source TON: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Source NPI: 0 1 3 4 6 8 9 10 14 18 Destination TON: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Destination NPI: 0 1 3 4 6 8 9 10 14 18 Service Type: "text field" Data Coding: 0 1 3 5 6 7 8 14 If you if the solution(if any) is supported in both normal and lite version nowsms, you are more than welcome to answer that as well. Hope someone is able to answer my question. Regards Christian

Hi Christian, Can you configure the data coding value in the SMPP client to a value of F0 (decimal value 240)? That is the data coding value for a flash message. If NowSMS were sending out via SMPP, there is a configuration parameter that could be used to override the data coding value for all text messages. However, in a configuration where an SMPP client is connecting to NowSMS, and NowSMS is sending out via a modem, there is no way to override the data coding value in this way. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi, I'm not able to use decimal 240 I only have the data codings I wrote in the first message. But will talk to software vendor for the 240/F0 support. If not it seems like I need to use a SP SMPP server for connection. Is it in the pipe to provide the always flash option when using modems ?

Hi Christian, Routing out via an SMPP server is the only option right now for overriding this particular attribute in that way. Using the full version of NowSMS, you might be able to kludge something together where the message comes in to NowSMS via SMPP ... but the default route out of NowSMS is an HTTP SMSC connection to itself. The HTTP SMSC URL template would modify the DCS value to F0, and add an &SMSCRoute parameter to route the message out via the modem when resubmitted. It's a bit of a weird kludge, but here's how you'd configure it. Manually edit SMSGW.INI for your current configuration. Find the [Modem - driver name here] section header for the modem you are using. Under this header, add: RouteName=Modem Now go into the NowSMS configuration, and go to the SMSC page. Select "Properties" for the modem, and UNcheck "Support any outbound message traffic". This means that the modem is only going to be used for sending outbound messages that are specifically routed to the modem. (We added RouteName=Modem to the SMSGW.INI file as a friendly name for this route.) Back on the "SMSC" page again, add a new connection. Type = "HTTP over TCP/IP". "Host Name" = 127.0.0.1 "Port Number" = 8800 (or if you have changed this port on the "Web" page of the configuration, put the port number for the NowSMS web interface here) "User Name" and "Password" should be a valid account defined under "SMS Users". "Send login credentials using HTTP Authorization Headers" should be checked. For "Server Type", scroll away from "NowSMS", and then back to it. This will pre-fill in the "URL Template" fields. Cursor to the end of "URL Template Text" and add the following to the end of the URL: &DCS=F0&SMSCRoute=Modem For the "URL Template Binary", add: &SMSCRoute=Modem I'd suggest checking "Send long messages without segmentation" for the best long message handling in this particular scenario. The other setting can be left at defaults. "Support any outbound message traffic" should be checked. What's going to happen now when your SMPP client submits a message, is that NowSMS is going to route it to the dummy HTTP SMSC connection that we created. This dummy connection modifies the DCS value and resubmits the message to NowSMS, this time explicitly routing it for sending via the modem. It's a kludge, but that would probably accomplish what you're trying to do. -- Des NowSMS Support
