Hi Andrew, If you see the received message in the other modem software, then this is a good indication that this other software is removing the message from the modem as it processes the message. That is normal behaviour for most modem software as there is limited memory to buffer messages in the modem. You need to disable that software from processing received SMS. There are many different Huawei modem models and different brandings of the modem software for different operators, but somewhere in the settings for that software there will be an option to either not process received messages, or to save them to the SIM. (If they are saved on the SIM, NowSMS can still process them.) Here's an article about the setting in an older version of the Huawei software: http://www.nowsms.com/sms-and-mms-with-the-huawei-e160-usb-modem I've looked at other models more recently and the setup is still quite similar. -- Des NowSMS Support

thanks for your response. I cant seem to see this any where on the online app. i assume there's no way to intercept it before the modem does.

I'm confused by your terminology "online app". (That suggests software hosted somewhere on-line.) I am referring to software installed on your PC to manage the modem. For non-carrier branded versions of Huawei software, this is usually called Mobile Partner. The software should offer some option or setting for how it processes SMS. What SMS related options or settings do you see? If you can't find any settings, post a screen capture and I will try to identify the software. -- Des NowSMS Support

I have no software installed on the PC to manage the modem. it just links me to an online 'management' page.

Ok ... I see that this particular device is not a typical modem, it is a portable WiFi hotspot. So it is running its own embedded software and presenting a web interface. To be honest, I am very surprised that you were able to find a way to send SMS with it using NowSMS. I assume you connected to it via USB? Unfortunately, there may be no way to reliably route received SMS messages to NowSMS using this device. The issue is that this device has embedded software that is actually controlling the modem. It is a "smart device", not a "dumb modem". The embedded software is like an operating system for the device, and if that software wants to process received SMS, then chances are that it is going to prevent NowSMS from receiving any messages. (A few might sneak through.) This is the same limitation that we face when trying to use modern smartphones as a modem. The only solution is to find a way to disable the embedded software from processing received SMS, or to leave received SMS on the SIM for other applications to process. If that is not possible, then I'd recommend a different modem. A dumb modem, not a portable WiFi hotspot. The issue is that the product designers of the hotspot probably never considered the possibility that another application might need to receive SMS. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Andrew, I have not used the Huawei E3131, however from what information I can find about it, it appears to be very similar to other USB modem sticks from Huawei. I would expect it to work for both sending and receiving messages. If you're not seeing a COM port, then this is probably because this is what they call a zero-install modem, and the modem has not been installed. Does that sound contradictory? Well, it is. A zero-install modem is a modem that comes without an install CD. When you first connect the modem to the computer it looks like an ordinary USB flash drive. You run a setup program on the flash drive to install the modem software, and then the device will appear to the computer as a modem. -- Des NowSMS Support

Maybe driver conflict with drivers that were installed when you had the other Huawei device connected via USB. Uninstall any Huawei software and try installing the device again. If it still fails, here is a link to the latest Windows modem drivers for most Huawei devices: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&fl ay=software&softid=NDcxMjQ= If that direct link doesn't work, look for the Mobile Partner link here: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=index&type=softwa re -- Des NowSMS Support |
