Dear Sir,

Our NowSMS LITE for MMS feature is not working this morning. We sent the SMS/MMS via Android modem that already installed to an android device.

1. The SMS is deliverable. Below is the SMS Log:
2015-06-30 10:42:39,<username>,SMSSubmit,<MSISDN>,127.0.0.1,554AF021,Text,Text=merry xmas

2. The MMS is not deliverable. Below is the error we received:
2015-06-30 10:35:58,MMSIN,127.0.0.1,,<MSISDN>,20150630-10-D88332B3@nowsms,VASP:192.168.1.112,2144

May I know the reasons to cause this error?

Hi,

Try restarting the phone. (I don't expect this to fix the problem, but this is the easiest first step.)

Next try sending an MMS with the messaging client in the phone. This error happens on some networks when the SIM runs out of credit, or if a mobile data connection can't be initiated.

If it is not a credit issue, then please enable the MMSCDEBUG.LOG. I'd like to see the details to get a better idea of what is failing...in particular, I'm interested in the X-NowSMS-Debug information.

Hi Des,

The MMS can be sent out via phone itself.
Then I referred to MMSCDEBUG.LOG. It seems something wrong to the MMS setting.

<html><head></head><body><p>MMS Connection Failure</p>
<p>Debug Info: MMS APN Active;203.92.128.160=203.92.128.160;route OK;route2 OK;
Exception
java.net.ConnectException: failed to connect to /203.92.128.160 (port 8080) after 30000ms: isConnected failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)
Connection to http://203.92.128.160:8080 refused
[Ljava.lang.StackTraceElement;@417496c0</p>
</body></html>

The current MMS settings for Malaysia (DiGi):
MMS Proxy Address: 203.92.128.160:8080
MMS Server URL: http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms

Then we changed to the following and finally it works!
MMS Proxy Address: 203.92.128.160:80
MMS Server URL: http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms

Thanks for the assistance and hints.
Thank you!

Hi Pankaj,

Your settings look correct for Malaysia-mobile ... the settings being read from the phone are:

MMS Server URL: http://10.30.3.11/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 10.30.5.11:8080

Have you tested to verify that you can send MMS ok with the phone's built in messaging app? It might be an account/SIM issue where MMS is not enabled.

Hi Des,

As i have mentioned previously that I am able to sent the MMS via phone's built in messaging app.

And MMS is enabled on this number.

Please let me know the other solution. Also why Malaysia-Umobile option is not available nowSMS?

Hi Pankaj,

Sorry that I missed that detail about you having confirmed that MMS from the phone's built-in messaging client works.

The detail from the MMSCDEBUG.LOG is different from the other one referenced earlier in this thread. In this case, the following is reported:

<html><head></head><body><p>MMS Connection Failure</p>
<p>Debug Info: MMS APN Active;10.30.5.11=10.30.5.11;route OK;route2 OK;
Exception
libcore.io.ErrnoException: sendto failed: ECONNRESET (Connection reset by peer)
sendto failed: ECONNRESET (Connection reset by peer)
[Ljava.lang.StackTraceElement;@423f71a0</p>
</body></html>

That suggests that the connection to the proxy (10.30.5.11:8080) is initially ok, but within 2.5 seconds, the proxy terminates the connection with no error response.

It is extremely difficult to guess why the operator proxy would do this.

My first guess would be that this is the wrong MMS proxy address, however when I search the web for Malaysia-mobile MMS settings, I do not see any alternatives.

My second guess is that maybe the operator has a very small MMS size limit. Normally in that case, there would be an error response to stop the client from retrying the message...not an abrupt reset. To test if this is the case, try sending a smaller MMS message to see if that works.

I am consulting my colleagues to see if they have any other ideas, but at this point, our best guess is that it is an operator-specific size related issue.

Hi Des,

Any update on the issue?

Also i have checked sending the 300KB mms directly from phone which is no prob but the same mms is not going through using the same phone as modem. So there is no such mms size issue found.

Can you please help us finding the way ASAP as we need to use the Umobile SIM for MMS broadcast.

One more thing i don't find MMS setting in nowSMS for Malaysia-Umobile any specific reason?

Hi Pankaj,

Please try the smaller message size test from NowSMS. Most MMS clients have an MMS size setting configured in the operator settings, and if the message is bigger, the phone downsizes images before sending. So when you try from the phone client, you may not be aware this is happening. (If this is the issue, there is a similar size setting possible in NowSMS.)

If message size is not the issue, then there is no easy solution.

The first step, of course, would be to try the latest versions of NowSMS and the modem app. Especially the modem app as there have been a few updates to deal with quirks of various devices. Scroll to the bottom of http://www.nowsms.com/download-free-trial and update to the interim versions listed at the bottom of the page.

The next step would be to determine if the issue is SIM-specific, phone-specific, or operator-specific.

If possible, try a different operator SIM in the same phone to verify it is not a phone compatibility issue.

Try a Umobile SIM in a different phone...preferably a different Umobile SIM, if possible.

No reason. There are likely many missing from this list.

The nice thing about newer Android devices is that we can read the settings from the phone in most cases, so there is no need to manually configure.
