I am trying to connect to the Bell Mobility network in Canada with a Novatel U697 usb modem.
I have installed and tested the modem with their software, and everything worked ok , could send sms messages from their UI.
I downloaded the 30 day version of nowsms lite edition (v2015.06.24)
when I am configuring the modem I fillin the APN - pda.bell.ca, MMS Proxy Address web.wireless.bell.ca and MMS Server URL - http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc (from their web page)

When I click on the Test Connection button a small window shows up and after ten seconds it goes unresponsive for about 30 seconds and then says the test failed.

a) does now.sms work on the bell mobility network
b) does it work with a Novatel U697 usb modem ?

Thanks

Hi Greg,

If one of your primary objectives is sending MMS, I would strongly recommend using an Android phone as a modem instead of a USB modem. If the SIM was activated for a modem device, most operators will assume the device cannot support MMS, and MMS will not be enabled for the SIM. (MMS performance is also much better in the Android configuration.)

Your settings do look correct, except we need to see web.wireless.bell.ca:80 as the gateway/proxy address, otherwise a WAP1 connection will be attempted. (Select Canada - Bell from our settings list.)

If adding :80 doesn't work....temporarily move the SIM to a phone and verify it can send MMS with the SIM, so that you know MMS is enable.

I assume the error you are seeing is "Unable to connect to WAP Gateway", or are you seeing something else?

If the SIM works in a phone, I know with USB modems we sometimes have problems with proxies/gateways that use a name instead of an IP address. web.wireless.bell.ca resolves to 184.151.127.63, but I suspect its also has a separate internal address when you have an active data connection. use the modem software to make a data connection, and ping the host name to try to determine the internal network IP, then try that ip:80 as the gateway/proxy.
