I would like to know what is the purpose/benefits of provisioning users in the MMSC Users tab in the MMSC. Additionally, what is the downside if a user does not exist in this tab?

Hi Brandon,

It depends on your configuration.

This "MMSC Users" account list is used for two primary purposes:

1.) In order for a mobile phone to send an MMS message through the MMSC, it needs to be provisioned here. (There are ways for this to occur automatically in mobile operator configurations.)

2.) In order to support general e-mail to SMS or MMS capability, the SMS or MMS recipient needs to be provisioned here.

Of course, with regard to #2, this is only one of the ways of allowing e-mail to SMS or MMS. You can also define authorised e-mail senders that are allowed to send to any SMS or MMS recipient (not just ones on this list). Or you can set up a range of trusted IP addresses that are allowed to send to any SMS or MMS recipient.

If you use one of those approaches, then there nothing to be gained by defining users in this list.
