Howdy all,

I have a feel questions regards the NowSMS software:
1. the NowSMS Gateway is only a message content delivery or it is a MMS Encoder too? If not, who encodes my MMS message?

2. what are the network topology to run the NowSMS gateway software? For example, what are the hardwares and softwares to send a MMS message and to receive in my phone? I only need the NowSMS? If yes, is the NowSMS a WAP Gateway too?

TIA,

Hi Marcelo,

1.) NowSMS will encode the MMS message in a manner appropriate for the type of MMS connectivity that you use in your setup. (The actual MMS encoding varies between different protocols. When people refer to an "encoded" MMS message, this usually means a binary encoded MMS message ready for over the air delivery. NowSMS can encode those. However, there are also configurations where you may use a different protocol to connect to an operator MMSC where a different type of encoding is used, and NowSMS also supports those encodings.)

This page describes the different interfaces that can be used to submit MMS messages to NowSMS:

http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/mms_notifications_and_c ontent/Submitting_MMS_Messages.htm

Also, PHP and Java info:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/1113.html
http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/1360.html

2.) You need connectivity to an SMSC or an MMSC in order to send MMS messages.

MMS is based upon WAP technologies, and uses WAP push to send an MMS notification to a recipient handset. When NowSMS is used as the MMSC, it requires an SMSC connection in order to send this MMS Notification via WAP Push over SMS.

An SMSC connection might be a connection to an SMS service provider, or it could be a GSM modem (or GSM phone with inbuilt GSM modem capabilities).

Instead of acting as an MMSC, NowSMS can also function as an MMS Gateway, sending MMS messages via an operator MMSC using MM7, MM4, MM1 or EAIF (MM1 can be over a GPRS modem).

So there are different options for the configuration, but you do need a connection to an SMSC or MMSC in order to send messages. (Although there is also some support for all IP environments when static IP addresses are used, see the release notes for the v5.50 beta: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/53/3291.html)

NowSMS is not a WAP gateway. If you require a WAP gateway, you can visit http://www.nowwap.com.

Hi Marcelo,

Apologies for the delay. I've asked our sales people to forward you details.

NowSMS does only run on a Windows platform. It does not use or require IIS. The web components of NowSMS use their own integrated web server.
