We are evaluating Nowsms and trying to deliver messages via GPRS with our 7600 with is a 3G phone. We have the MMSC url and the GPRS side of things (via IR) covered but the phone doesn't seem to have an IP Address - just a primary proxy and port number - are we able to deliver MMS through this handset? Has anyone had experience doing this?

Hi David,

Who is the operator? (I would normally assume "3", but then you mention "GPRS".)

Even though the phone uses an HTTP proxy, our software wants to talk to a WAP proxy. The phone is just a data conduit used for an IP connection, so it doesn't matter whether the browser on the phone itself uses an HTTP proxy or a WAP proxy.

You would use the settings appropriate for connecting to a WAP proxy on that network. We've got a number of the settings documented on the following thread:

Hey Bryce.

Thank you for getting back to us.

Yes the operator is "3" in Australia. My concern was that I was under the impression that the 7600 posts MMS messages over WP-HTTP, not WSP.... hence the concern with the HTTP Proxy - we can seem to get NowSMS to work (we've tried everything and it works perfectly with all the other local GSM operators)....

David,

Do you know if "3" has any phones that use WSP instead of HTTP?

Have you tried specifying the IP address of the HTTP proxy as the WAP gateway IP? (Often times, operators have them on the same machine.)

We've been looking at adding an option to use an HTTP proxy instead of a WAP proxy over the data connections. But there are some tricks that we can use with the WSP protocol that allow us to be able to simultaneously support multiple GPRS modem connections.

And we don't think that we'd be able to do this using an HTTP proxy. Instead, we'd have to go back to processing one GPRS modem at a time (which is reasonable for some sites).

If you can give me a couple of days, I'll look into this in some more detail. We want to release our v5.50 version.

After that is released, we can look at adding a setting for connecting via an HTTP proxy instead of a WAP proxy.

If possible, could you send me an e-mail to nowsms@now.co.uk, and I'll follow-up with you directly.
