hi

I am using a SE T610 acting as a modem and running Now SMS/MMS Gateway 5.01. I had configured the modem and the MMSC Routing config as per the documentation , routing messages to the operator's MMSC via MM1. This route has also been set as the default route for all MMS messages.
However I still failed to send the messages through the Web form. When I test the connection, I got an error indicating failure connecting to the WAP gateway. Below is the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG:

I have confirmed that the IP address for the WAP gateway and the MMSC URL are correct, anything else that I can try?

Hi beng,

I've had others tell me that they have had problems connecting to Singtel, but that they have been succesful with M1.

In your case, we are not getting any response back from our attempts to connect to the gateway.

Did you configure the "Login Name", below the "GPRS APN" setting to be "65", with a password of "user123"? (These login settings seem inconsistent when I look at the settings at http://www.miworld.com.sg/mms/mms_start.jsp, but you should probably try them, as it could make a difference.)

From all appearances, the GPRS connection looks good, there's just no response coming back from the WAP gateway when we attempt to connect.

Out of curiosity, when you connect using the sunsurf APN from your PC ... if you open a command window and type IPCONFIG, what IP address are you assigned?

I'm wondering if maybe the phone is getting confused and connecting to the wrong APN. Although the log clearly shows us connecting to CID=2.

Although it would require you to go back and reconfigure your phone to be able to send/receiving MMS again, I'd suggest going into the "Data Accounts" menu and delete the MMS account (where the "miworld" APN is defined). Then try NowSMS again, and see if it can connect. I'm just wondering if maybe there is something about the account definition.

It wouldn't hurt to turn off the phone and remove the battery for a minute or so as well. Sometimes a phone reset is needed after some reconfigurations.

Hi Bryce

Thanks for the suggestions. I deleted all the GPRS configs from the Data Accounts and tried again. This time it works! So I suppose the phone got confused. I will be testing further with Singtel and Starhub lines (the other 2 mobile operators in my country) as well and will share my experience in the forum.

Regarding the IP address when I connect using the sunsurf APN, I was allocated a private IP in the 172.x.x.x segment. The first time was 172.22.169.213 and the second, 172.22.48.253.

Beng,

Good deal. I'm glad that deleting the data account solved the problem. I was playing a hunch based upon an odd experience that I had recently with a T610.

Hi Bryce

I had tested with Singtel and Starhub lines and both were successful. In the case of Singtel, I was not able to send the message if the Sender address or phone no. is set different from the no. used by the sending phone (I was testing using the Web form). In such cases, the WAP gateway returned me a HTTP 403 Forbidden error.
In the case of M1 and Starhub, the operator's MMSC allows me to send a message with the Sender address set to another phone no. or email address. However when the message was received, the Sender was displayed as the phone no. of the originating phone. MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG clearly indicated that the correct Sender address was posted to the operator's MMSC so I guess it was overwritten at the operator's side.
I had set the settings in MMS Routing in all 3 cases as such:
Default Sender Address: <phone_no>/TYPE=PLMN
Allow Sender Address Override: CHECKED

This is not a point of concern for my purpose but just for info sake, does it mean that messages routing through my server will always have the Sender address as the sending phone if they are routed to M1 and Starhub?

Beng,

Yes, generally speaking, if you are submitting the MMS message through an operator MMSC ... the sender address is going to be forced (by the operator MMSC) as the phone number.

CSD = "Circuit Switched Data" (i.e., dial-up networking)

So basically, a reference to CSD in an error message indicates that the device is not attempting to use GPRS, instead it is trying to use CSD.

The user manual for the SL55 can be found at the following link:

http://www.siemens-mobile.com/repository/170/17006/sl55_userguide_3long_comaucac nhkiemanzzauk_eng.pdf

The GPRS settings that you need to configure are operator specific, so you will have to apply the appropriate GPRS settings for your operator.

Using NowSMS?

What are the settings that you have configured, and what type of modem are you using?

Are you using the following settings:

APN: e-ideas
User ID: 65eideas
Password: eideas
WAP Gateway IP: 165.21.42.84
MMS Server URL: mms.e-ideas.com.sg:10021/mmsc

Create a file named MMSWAP.INI in the NowSMS subdirectory, with the following contents:

[MMSWAP]
Debug=Yes

On your next connection attempt, NowSMS will create a file named MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG. What does that file show?
