Hi Des

Am at my wits end on this. Am trying to connect from the mobile handset to now mmsc but it simply refuses to connect. The request doesnt come at all to now mmsc and nothing in the mms debug logs.

Am trying the following on the handset:

http://domain.com/username=password

Domian name is properly configured to point to the now mmsc server.

Am i missing something? I did setup the mms url couple of years back on version 2008 and am doing the same steps but its not working out.

Has something changed in the setup parameters from 2008 to 2011 version?

Am using the operators GPRS apn to connect to now mmsc. Browsing on the GPRS apn to my specified domain is happening in the browser.

Kindly help me out.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Sam,

On the MMSC page of the configuration, is the "HTTP Port Number" set to 80? If not, you need to add ":portnumber" after the host name in the URL.

(Note that operator APNs may block non-standard ports.)

If you try to connect to this URL from the web browser in the device, does this show a connection attempt in the MMSCDEBUG.LOG?

Hi Des

Its set to 80 so not using any port on the URL. Tried using other ports also but it doesnt work out.

Yes from mobile browser it shows a request in the debug log. But from mobile handset mms client nothing in the mms debug log.

Am using the Internet APN and not the wap APN so ports wont be blocked.

Any other clues? Am testing on 64bit windows server 2003 machine. Have reinstalled NowSMS also but of no avail.

Thanks for your time.

Sam

Hi Sam,

There must be some other attribute in the MMS settings in the phone that isn't set.

MMS settings usually expect there to be an APN and a WAP Gateway/Proxy Address and port. If you're using an internet APN that doesn't have an available proxy, then in this case, you can set this to the MMSC host name and port. Maybe that's the issue? It's definitely a client side connectivity issue as you've proven that the device can connect to the URL via web browser. Double check and triple check MMS client settings on the device.

Hi Des

Found the issue. It seems Android 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 is the culprit. Guess Androids going the Iphone/BB way or planning to go atleast.

You need to be connected to net via internet APN to send/receive MMS!!!!!!! So no auto downloads of MMS and no auto sends of MMS on android 2.3.

If you are not connected via the internet APN you would just get a message saying downloading which was a mms notification but would never convert into an mms, also older mms messages cannot be retrieved. Further details

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17329&q=mms&colspec=ID%20Type% 20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars

I hope this is not connected to google voice integrating with MMS.

Hi Sam,

That is interesting.

As I understand it from reading that thread, the problem seems to possibly only affect Samsung phones.

The problem occurs if you do not have an internet APN configured, or do not have the "use packet data" setting enabled.

It does seem an unreasonable limitation, but perhaps there has been no push to get this problem fixed because operators have been requiring new Android users to sign up for data plans (and they like it when users go over their data limits).

Hi Des

same issue with SE xperia play so its an android issue.

That also explains why i got the download option when i sent an mms using the web interface.

Had a horrifying time figuring this issue.

Thanks for bearing up with my query which had nothing to do with nowsms

Regards
Sam
