I would like to send and receive MMS using IPv6 but it proceeds with difficulty.
Currently I can send and receive MMS using IPv4 by setting [HTTP over TCP/IP] from [SMSC] tab.
I refered to Android Phone Modem Support(http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/72378.html) and there is a following mention.
"This update corrects a problem that could prevent sending and receiving MMS on some mobile operator networks where IPv6 is deployed."
Is it possible to send and receive MMS using IPv6 in [HTTP over TCP/IP]?
If NowSMS supports IPv6, please teach how I should configure it to send and receive MMS using IPv6.

[What I already tried.]
1. When I input an IPv6 address to Host Name in HTTP Connection setting, an error dialog is shown and cannot set the address.
2. I set only IPv6 to DNS setting in IMS Services.

Hi,

Are you using an Android device as a modem?

That is the only configuration that will currently support IPv6.

Yes.

Android is Cliant, host use I install NowSMS in base station simulator Anritsu MD8475A.

I examine MMS on Anritsu in Standalone.

I want to do MMS examination in the IPv6, what should I do?

Sorry, but NowSMS does not currently support IPv6 in that configuration.

Thanks.

Do you have a plan to support IPv6 in this configuration?

If yes, when will it be supported?

Since some operators are bringing IPv6 into use, I consider this use case needs to be verified.
I strongly hope that NowSMS will fully support IPv6 in the future.
For now I close this Q&A thread, thank you.

Follow-up...

I discussed this with our engineering team, and they indicated that there were plans to add IPV6 for MMSC configurations before the end of the year.

Some of the initial support will be ready in interim releases near the middle of next month. Specifically, this first phase is to allow MMSC clients to use the MM1 interface to send and receive MMS messages using IPV6. Support for using IPV6 in connections initiated by NowSMS (such as the HTTP SMSC connection in your example) will follow later in the year.

We are really happy to hear that NowSMS will support IPv6 use-case in future.
Again we really want to use your solution for our verification of IPv6 MMS by using Android.
We will contact you again and touch this topic in end of the year.

Hi,

There is a preliminary update at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms20141122.zip that provides IPv6 support for most functionality.

IPv6 is disabled by default. To enable it, you must manually edit SMSGW.INI and under the [SMSGW] header add:

EnableIPV6=Yes

The NowSMS services must be restarted for this setting to take effect.

Be sure to verify that the "IP Address" settings on the "MMSC" and "Web" pages are set to "(all available)', as if an IPv4 address is configured here, this will limit the service to a single IPv4 address and effectively override EnableIPV6=Yes.

If you need to specify an IPv6 address for any setting in NowSMS, it must be enclosed by [ ] characters. Of course, using a DNS host name is preferable.

Thank you for your support.
It was possible to send and receive MMS for IPv6 by using Android.

When is this update released officially?

We are posting a slightly newer version as an interim update at http://www.nowsms.com/download-free-trial (scroll to bottom of page).

So, that is semi-official.

At this stage, we are recommending that release for customers experiencing specific issues. We do not anticipate promoting this to the standard release until late next month.

Hi,

From our past conversations I understood that the standard release was already out from the end of January 2015.
I looked into Update History, the link below and it seems like it's not released yet.
http://www.nowsms.com/download/changes.txt

Also, it didn't let me select IPv6 address from the configration page, go to Now SMS/MMS Gateway - MMSC - SMTP IP Address:
Can you tell me if the support was added to the latest version of 2015.06.24?
If not can you tell me when the release is going to happen?
I hope to hear back from you soon.

Hi,

IPV6 support is available in the 2015.06.24 version, despite the lack of mention.

IPv6 is disabled by default. To enable it, you must manually edit SMSGW.INI and under the [SMSGW] header add:

EnableIPV6=Yes

If you need to specify an IPv6 address for any setting in NowSMS (such as an external SMSC or MMSC server connection), it must be enclosed by [ ] characters. Of course, using a DNS host name is preferable.

quote:

Also, it didn't let me select IPv6 address from the configration page, go to Now SMS/MMS Gateway - MMSC - SMTP IP Address:

That is correct. There is no setting to bind the MMSC to only a single IPV6 address. When EnableIPV6=Yes is set, the MMSC will bind to all available IPV6 addresses on the server. Selecting an IPv4 address will bind to only that IPv4 address, and disable IPv6.
