Problem is that whenever I am sending a long message >160 characters it is going in the outbound queue and each part of the multi-part message is submitted to SMSC after more than a minute.
while short messages are working fine even if I am sending same short message to multiple numbers it is getting delivered asap.

Hi,

What does the SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG report? (Any errors?)

I would like to see the timing of entries in this SMSOUT log file, even if there are no errors.

Are you certain that there is not a similar delay between individual short messages?

Did you recently install/update any serial numbers? The most common problem similar to what you describe can be caused by installation of a corrupt license file. I believe one of my colleagues has already been in touch with you via e-mail to check that you have been issued valid licenses ... but until I have more information, I do not want to rule out that possibility.

Hi Des

My Team was facing this issue on 2 separate laptops so i installed the trial version yesterday itself on my desktop to see if this issue is coming on new installation as well.

Additionally, please find the SMSOUT log file and serial no

Hi Aditya,

The log file entries are VERY interesting.

NowSMS is reporting timeout errors trying to submit the 1st and 2nd segments of the message, then the 3rd segment is submitted without an error.

Am I correct to assume that the entire long message is actually received?

NowSMS is using its default SMPP settings, which is a synchronous connection. This means that NowSMS submits a message, then waits for the message to be acknowledged before submitting the next message.

By default, NowSMS will wait up to 2 minutes for this acknowledgment, at which point it will record an error, and then process the next message.

Here is what I think is happening ...

I suspect that this particular SMSC connection assumes that the client is using an asynchronous connection. And if the message is a multipart message, the SMSC waits until all segments of the message to be received before sending any acknowledgment.

Assuming that this is the case, I would suggest enabling SMPP async mode, which is under "Advanced Settings" for the SMPP connection:

P.S. - I was just reviewing the e-mail messages that you exchanged with my colleague Bryce ... and he also suggested this same action yesterday (enabling SMPP async mode), but for a different reason. So I definitely think there is something to this recommendation.

Hi Des

It worked for the multi part messages but now single short messages are going in the Queue.

Also, what should be the ideal value for the window size?

Hi Aditya,

This is very interesting, as we have not encountered an SMPP server that handled multipart messages in this way.

Sorry, I do not understand what this means. What is happening with single short messages?

In this specific case, it should be larger than the maximum number of segments in the largest message that your system will process.

In general cases, we recommend a window size that is close to the number of messages per second that you are trying to achieve, but I'd hesitate to use a value less than 3 or greater than 10 without testing. (The window size setting can be changed without causing the current connection to be reset.)

FWIW, The SMPP specification recommends not using a value higher than 10.

This is just a general recommendation, as I've seen systems successfully using higher values.
