I have been having issues with connecting androids to my NOWSMS Linux setup. It seems after a period of time the remote via cloud connection fails and I get errors. I go to try and reconnect and it doesn't work. The only way it seems to work is that I have to turn off the cloud connection and then turn it back on. This generates a new cloud server id and I have to go and update all the phones. I would really like to just connect direct to the server and when I go to connect to my public url the android never connects. I have port 8990 opened up my NOWSMS server. I am looking to scale up the number of androids and having to reprogram a ton of them doesn't work. I wont be posting any public info here so if you need details let's take it privately. | |||

Hi, Are you trying to connect multiple modems using the same modem name? That's the only explanation that I can think of for the strange behavior with the cloud modems. Each modem must be assigned a unique name. Regarding directly connecting to the NowSMS server ... it can be very difficult to troubleshoot whether or not a port is actually open. Try using telnet to connect to port 8990, and try sending an HTTP request, like this: GET / HTTP/1.1 After typing the above, press Enter twice, leaving a blank line. If you are connected to NowSMS, you should see the following response: HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable Connection: close Content-Length: 0 I tried connecting to port 8990 on the IP address you provided in an email to one of my colleagues, and I am not seeing this response. This leads me to believe that port 8990 is not actually open. Hopefully this points you in the right direction. After updating the SMSGW file with what you gave me the remote direct still doesn't work. I had to redo all the phone with the new cloud server id after stopping the service and reactivating it. Do the phone have to be on the same network to connect remote direct or can they be from all over as long as they have internet access to connect? |
