Hello. If I can provide Internet, can provide SMS? A form exists to have my own SMScenter? To be like a GPRS supplier. That equipment is necessary, is very expensive? I need some type license? Thanks for any commentary- -- Roberto | |||

Hi Roberto, At the end of the day, when an SMS is received by a mobile phone, the mobile operator to which that phone is subscribed, is going to charge someone for that SMS delivery. In a simple scenario, if the sender is a subscriber of the same mobile operator (phone or other account connecting to the operator SMSC), then that sender is charged directly. If the sender comes in through another SMSC, then that SMSC needs to have a billing relationship with the receiving mobile operator. If you truly want to run your own SMSC, then you need a connection into the SS7 network (sorry, not IP based), and you need roaming agreements (termination charge agreements) to deliver SMS to the destination operators. There are a number of SMS service providers that do this through partnerships with smaller network operators (like mBlox with Jersey Telecom and TynTec with Manx in the Isle of Man). But most SMS service providers are "aggregators". They work out agreements with other aggregators who have bulk messaging agreements with different mobile operators. Most likely, if you wanted to be an SMS service provider, you would act as an aggregator, delivering your traffic through other service providers. To be a GPRS supplier is a different story. There you would probably pursue an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) type of arrangement with a mobile operator in your region ... assuming that you had a strong business case for being able to offer this type of service, as it is far more specialised than SMS delivery. | |||
