Hi I am new to MMS technology and the NowSMS gateway. I am having a problem configuring my PC to be an MMSC. My PC is on a sub network and my administrator has linked port 80 on our router to connect to my machine. SO my external address is 208.177.157.114. But this IP address is not available on my machine; the only one available is static ip address I have on my sub network.(I hope I am making sense). So in the MMSC conf if I give the 208.... IP address info in the local host name or IP address field, the MMS message is not being submitted. The error I get is Error: Unable to fetch URL: http://208.177.157.114:80/20030204/16/3E4057C3a.MMS . If I change the IP adddress to the machine's local IP address, the message is sent but the message obviously cannot be accessed from the cell phone. Could you please give me ideas on how to work around this. I am assuming a lot of Windows PCs used would not be directly connected to the internet. Thanks Sharmila

Hi Sharmila, What happens if you try to retrieve that URL from your web browser? The web browser should say that it is attempting to download a file, or does it refuse to connect? As I can connect to 208.177.157.114 from here, that there is a restriction that from inside of your firewall you are unable to connect to an address that is routed back inside of your firewall. Unfortunately, for the "Send MMS Message" function from the "web menu interface" to work, we need to make this connection (other types of MMS sending, such as through the SMTP interface or phone-to-phone don't require this). This is actually there as a validation that you've got the right settings configured for the local host name ... unfortunately there is no way to skip the validation. I do have a work-around suggestion, however. Can you get a DNS name assigned to 208.177.157.114? If you can, let's say the name is "mms.domain.com". Put that name in as the "Local Host Name or IP Address". Then, in the "\winnt\system32\drivers\etc" directory, you'll find a file named "hosts". Edit this file and add: 127.0.0.1 mms.domain.com This way, when the local PC tries to resolve "mms.domain.com", it will resolve it as the local host loopback address 127.0.0.1. But when an external client resolves the name, it will find the true address. -bn

Thanks Bryce, for the info. I tried the workaround you gave me. The MMSC is submitting the message without any problems but I still cannot receive the message from the cell phone. I have an ericsson t68i on a tmobile network in USA. The cell phone tries to download the message, then gives me a network communications error and asks me to check the settings. The log files once the message is submitted shows the following info: 12:04:37:921 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing request /Send%20MMS%20Message.htm 12:05:03:156 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing connection from 127.0.0.1... 12:05:03:171 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing connection from 127.0.0.1... 12:05:03:171 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing request /Send%20MMS%20Message.htm 12:05:03:171 [4] ParseMultipart: POST /Send%20MMS%20Message.htm HTTP/1.1 Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */* Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8800/Send%20MMS%20Message.htm Accept-Language: en-us Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------7d37d310168 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0) Host: 127.0.0.1:8800 Content-Length: 16225 Connection: Keep-Alive Cache-Control: no-cache Authorization: Basic Ym9zY2g6Ym9zY2g= PhoneNumber=2834039&MMSSubject=new mms test&MMSText=&MMSFile=sample_image.gif&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&MMSFile=&Submit=Submit& 12:05:03:171 [4] Debug: 1 recipient entries 12:05:03:171 [4] Debug: 2834039 12:05:03:171 [4] ParsePostValue: MMSFile=sample_image.gif 12:05:03:187 [4] ParsePostValue: MMSFile=sample_image.gif 12:05:03:187 [4] ParsePostValueMulti: MMSFile= 12:05:03:250 [4] ParsePostValue: MMSFile=sample_image.gif 12:05:03:250 [4] ParsePostValueMulti: MMSFile= 12:05:03:250 [4] Redirect: Location: http://127.0.0.1:8800/?PhoneNumber=2834039&MMSURL=www.rtcportal.com:80/20030205/12/3E416E70a.MMS&MMSSUBJECT=new%20mms%20test 12:05:03:250 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing connection from 127.0.0.1... 12:05:03:250 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing connection from 127.0.0.1... 12:05:03:265 [4] ThreadProcessConnection: Processing request /?PhoneNumber=2834039&MMSURL=www.rtcportal.com:80/20030205/12/3E416E70a.MMS&MMSSUBJECT=new%20mms%20test 12:05:03:265 [4] ParseMultipart: GET /?PhoneNumber=2834039&MMSURL=www.rtcportal.com:80/20030205/12/3E416E70a.MMS&MMSSUBJECT=new%20mms%20test HTTP/1.1 Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */* Referer: http://127.0.0.1:8800/Send%20MMS%20Message.htm Accept-Language: en-us Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------7d37d310168 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0) Host: 127.0.0.1:8800 Connection: Keep-Alive Cache-Control: no-cache Authorization: Basic Ym9zY2g6Ym9zY2g= 12:05:03:265 [4] Debug: 1 recipient entries 12:05:03:265 [4] Debug: 2834039 12:05:03:265 [4] RetrieveURL: Retrieving http://www.rtcportal.com:80/20030205/12/3E416E70a.MMS 12:05:03:421 [4] RetrieveURL: Looking up www.rtcportal.com 12:05:03:421 [4] RetrieveURL: Retrieving 20030205/12/3E416E70a.MMS 12:05:03:453 [4] RetrieveURL: got success response 12:05:03:453 [4] RetrieveURL: application/vnd.wap.mms-message 12:05:03:453 [4] RetrieveURL: timeout waiting for response 12:05:03:984 [3] ThreadProcessModem: Processing SAR-2834039-6f-2-1.req... 12:05:03:984 [3] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: AT+CMGS=151 12:05:06:312 [3] ThreadProcessModem: IN: > 12:05:06:312 [3] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: 0041000781824330F900F78C0B05040B8423F000036F02016F06226170706C69636174696F6E2F766E642E7761702E6D6D732D6D65737361676500AF848C82983345343136453731008D90966E6577206D6D732074657374008A808E02380088058103093A8083687474703A2F2F7777772E727463706F7274616C2E636F6D3A38302F32303033303230352F31322F334534313645373061 12:05:13:625 [3] ThreadProcessModem: +CMGS: 56 OK 12:05:13:625 [3] ThreadProcessModem: Processing SAR-2834039-6f-2-2.req... 12:05:13:625 [3] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: AT+CMGS=28 12:05:15:828 [3] ThreadProcessModem: IN: > 12:05:15:828 [3] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: 0041000781824330F900F7110B05040B8423F000036F02022E4D4D5300 12:05:30:828 [3] ReceiveModemCommand: trying again... 12:05:39:250 [3] ThreadProcessModem: +CMGS: 192 OK ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ Are there any settings that can be changed further to make it work. Sharmila, I tried accessing the URL in question, and it didn't work. www.rtcportal.com seems to point to a different server ... IP address for it is 64.40.107.131. I connected to it, and I can verify that it is not our gateway. So while it resolves ok locally, the problem is that it does not resolve correctly for the outside world. Can you get another DNS entry setup that points to the correct address? -bn

Thanks Bryce for pointing out the problem. I'll get in touch with the support staff at the place where we have registered our domain to find what the problem is. -Sharmila

Hi, The same problem I am also facing as My problem is very basic. I need to send sms as well as mms through nowsms.com 60 days evaluation software. I want to know 1) Are you guys providing any sms or mms services through nowsms? If so please provide me those informations so that I can add with my local setting. 2)If you guys are not providing service then where i get these. Is bulksms.co.uk support? Regards Sanjith
Bryce Norwood - NowSMS Support (Bryce) |
Sanjith, It does not sound like you are experiencing anything close to the same problem. We do not provide an SMS service offering, only software. I've never used the "bulksms.co.uk" service. I have looked at it briefly, and while it would appear that it should work, the web site does not provide any information on how to send binary SMS messages through the service. If there is not a way to send binary SMS messages through the service, then you would be limited to text messages only (no ring tones/images, no WAP push, no MMS). Search the message threads here for references to Clickatell. I have used them in the past, although now that they no longer support PayPal, they can be more difficult to get an account setup with. -bn |
