Hello All,

I am attempting to run the gateway on a XP machine. I hope to provide the SMSC connectivity via my GSM phone (a Motorola V 66). I have connected it via the USB data cable that I have used before to connect to T-Mobile's GPRS network in California. In other words, it works.

However, when I attempt the 'Test and Add Modem' in order to add the modem/phone I get the following error:

"Unable to initialize modem: Error 80000048 from lineOpen"

Was wondering if anyone else has faced a similar situation. All advise will be greatly appreciated!

This error message can be caused by a variety of problems. We originally hoped that returning the error code from the TAPI call would provide more
insight into problems, but this is one of the generic error codes. It can happen if the COM port is configured incorrectly for the modem driver, or if the modem is not connected. It can also happen if the modem is already opened by another application.

If you have some other software installed that you use to make a GPRS connection via the modem, then please make sure that software is not
running, as only one application can have the modem open at a time.

To verify that it is not a problem specific to NowSMS, you may also want to try using HyperTerminal to dial a phone number via that same modem driver.
