Are you setting the correct MCC (Mobile Country Code) and MNC (Mobile Network Code)?

Nokia operator logos are funny in that they need to be encoded with these values. (You'll notice that if you have an operator logo defined, it is not displayed when you are roaming.)

I'm stumped. If possible try another phone to see if the problem is phone specific (maybe memory is corrupt in the phone).

Post the logo that you're sending, and maybe I can spot something with the format that could be a problem.

Hi Bryce,
I have tried from different mobile phones and the logo was not saved. This is what I send: http://127.0.0.1:8800/Send%20Nokia%20Operator%20Logo.htm?PhoneNumber=%2B35569207 0122&NokiaMCC=276&NokiaMNC=02&NokiaBitmapData=00480E01FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF80000180 000300000183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF818387C1838783070F 81800F81800F83001F01801F01801F03003E01803E01803E03007C01807C01807C0300F80180F801 80F80301F00181F00181F00303E001800001800003000001FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF&Binary=1&PID= 0&DCS=F5&UDH=06050415821582&Data=72F62000480E01FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF800001800003000 00183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF818387C1838783070F81800F8 1800F83001F01801F01801F03003E01803E01803E03007C01807C01807C0300F80180F80180F8030 1F00181F00181F00303E001800001800003000001FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I hope you find something.

Unfortunately I've got to get my hands on an older Nokia phone to try this out.

I've sent it to a 3650, and it can recognise and display the operator logo in the message ... but I don't know what these Symbian phones do with these logo files.

Maybe someone else out here can try it?

Hi Bryce,
Something strange happened!!!
If you have tried to run this:
http://127.0.0.1:8800/Send%20Nokia%20Operator%20Logo.htm?PhoneNumber=%2B35569207 0122&NokiaMCC=276&NokiaMNC=02&NokiaBitmapData=00480E01FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF80000180 000300000183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF818387C1838783070F 81800F81800F83001F01801F01801F03003E01803E01803E03007C01807C01807C0300F80180F801 80F80301F00181F00181F00303E001800001800003000001FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF&Binary=1&PID= 0&DCS=F5&UDH=06050415821582&Data=72F62000480E01FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF800001800003000 00183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF8183FFC183FF8307FF818387C1838783070F81800F8 1800F83001F01801F01801F03003E01803E01803E03007C01807C01807C0300F80180F80180F8030 1F00181F00181F00303E001800001800003000001FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I can tell you that I received the Op Logo OK and I can save it.
Can it be a problem with the trial version I am using. Please check this possibility because also in the logo quality I have problems while the Op Logo you sent to me is perfect.

Hi Bryce,
I wanted to tell you that till now I have been using a SMPP connection to an SMSC when I had these problems. I decided to test sending this OP Logo from a 6310 connected to my PC and everything is OK. I mean I receive a perfect OP Logo and I am able to save it.
Do you use a SMPP connection or a GSM modem?
What I am trying to understand is if the problem is in my SMPP connection.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Elvis,

I accidentally did send you a copy of your operator logo when I tested it out (I forgot to change the phone number in the URL on my first send ... and hadn't changed the MNC or MCC codes yet either).

It was sent out through an SMPP connection on my end.

It is very odd that you would see different behaviour on your receiving system if you use an SMPP connection vs. using a GSM modem.

If the phone sees the message as an operator logo message (and can display it), it doesn't sound like it is getting too scrambled.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the DCS value is significant, and maybe it is getting changed by your SMPP provider.

Here's what I would do ...

Setup your GSM modem to receive messages through the NowSMS gateway. (Don't configure any receive commands, just enable the receive messages setting.)

Send the operator logo to the phone through the GSM modem itself, and through your SMPP connection.

When the message is received by the phone, do not open it. Let NowSMS grab it, and it should store the received messages into the SMS-IN directory.

Do you notice any differences? If you want to post the two messages for comparison, I'll take a closer look.

Also, if you need me to send another copy through my SMPP provider, I can do that as well.

Hi Bryce,
Thanks for your answers.
I spoke with my SMPP provider and they told me that there is a restriction in the SMSC Gateway that doesn't allow me to send a data messages longer than 160 characters. So if I wont to send longer data messages I have to split the messages on two or more parts. Can you please tell me how to split the messages in order for the receivers mobile to merge them in one Op Logo?

Elvis,

We do that splitting for you automatically.

In this particular case, however, no splitting is required.

The message size limit is 140 bytes when in binary mode, and this particular message has 133 bytes of data, and 7 bytes of UDH ... meeting that 140 byte limit exactly.

It's actually somewhat of a special case for Nokia Smart Messaging operator logos ... a couple of Nokia Smart Messaging operator logo header fields are omitted to allow 72 x 14 logos to be sent in a single SMS message.

The SMS provider shouldn't have any knowledge of the op logo content inside the message, so that shouldn't be an issue.

And since it all fits into a single SMS message, this doesn't sound like a typical multiple part message problem.

One thing that you could try to see if it is size related (perhaps the provider is truncating before 140 bytes) would be to reduce the size of the bitmap. One easy change is to change the starting 00480E to 00480D, and then remove the 18 F's from the end of the bitmap string.

With this change, we are essentially removing the bottom row from the bitmap. The size becomes 72 x 13 (0D) instead of 72 x 14 (0E). And we remove 72 bits, or 9 bytes (9 x 8 = 72) from the end of the string. As a byte is represented by two hex characters in a hex string, this means we are removing 18 (9 x 2 = 18) hex characters from the string.

Then let the NowSMS web form rebuild the op logo message from the bitmap data ... when you change from 72 x 14 to 72 x 13, some extra smart messaging headers will be present that are not present in the 72 x 14 special case.

Does the 72 x 13 logo message work any different?

Hi Bryce,
I tried whith the 72 x 13 logo message and nothing changed. I mean I receive the op logo scrambled and I can not save yet.
As you say this means that the provider is not truncating before 140 bytes.

Elvis,

I just want to confirm something. The logo that you receive in the display is scrambled in both instances (72 x 13 & 72 x 14)?

If possible, try the technique of using a GSM modem to receive these messages that I mentioned earlier in this thread. Then send one copy of the message through your SMPP connection, and another through the GSM modem. Then we can take a closer look at the received messages to see what was received ... and maybe that will provide a clue as to what is going on.

Another thing to try is to try changing the DCS to 04 instead of F5. (We have had to do this a couple of times in North America.)
