I have been trying to buy an external GSM modem for weeks without success. The WAVECOM distributors are only interested in reselling large quantities of modems to companies. Besides WAVECOM I don't know of any other brands.

Can someone offer some pointers? I will appreciate it.

It does seem to be a real challenge in the US, especially as you need to have one that supports 1900Mhz.

PC card modems are readily available in the US, but external modems are another issue.

I've heard that Multitech is introducing a GSM/GPRS modem, and I've periodically checked various US web sites that claim to sell the modem, but they always say "out of stock" ... so I'm not sure if this modem has been released yet.

Note that we have not tested NowSMS with this modem, but since getting external GSM modems in the US seems to be such an issue, we've been curious to test this particular device.

Using a phone as a modem is, of course, another external alternative. The SonyEricsson T68i is readily available and relatively inexpensive. The only problem with using a phone as the modem is that it cannot be used to receive MMS via NowSMS.
