Hi,
Which of the following GSM Modems is capable (and recommended) for proper 2way SMS functionality ?

1. Motorola Razor V3
2. Motorola V551
3. Sonny Erricson T610
4. Sierra Wireless 775.

One more thing : I'm using a VPN connection along with remote desktop in order to access the computer in which NowSMS is running at , are there any restrictions on this kind of usage ?

Thanks.

Hi,

1, 3 and 4 would be ok.

2 might be ... but I have no experience with that device.

Note that there is a bug in the GSM modem interface of all Motorola phones with such an interface (including the RAZR V3) that makes it incapable of sending long text messages or EMS or WAP Push messages. Basically they are only good for sending/receiving plain text messages. So I recommend them with this reservation.

The SonyEricsson T610 is a good device for use as a GSM modem. That family of devices is quite reliable.

Do note, however, if you use a phone as a GSM modem ... while it is fine for sending/receiving SMS, and sending MMS ... it cannot be used for receiving MMS.

The Sierra Wireless Aircard 775 would be my choice for best performance. (And for sending/receiving SMS or MMS without restrictions.)

No restrictions specific to NowSMS.

I seem to recall an issue where the "Test Modem" or "Test and Add Modem" button did not work properly when accessed under Remote Desktop, if the NowSMS service was currently running. You needed to stop the service before being able to perform these functions. (This problem may have been resolved in recent updates ... I don't recall ... but it is easy enough to work-around.)
