Hi there, is anybody aware of a functionality, either through the use of the NowSMS gateway software (or other means), on how to mask my GSM number when I send SMSs to my contacts? I am using a standard operator's SIM with a GSM modem, so have a standard format number. However, I want to keep my number anonymous when sending any messages. I.e. if I was to send you a text message, then the 'From' field would show a custom Name, as opposed to showing my actual number in the +44772123.... format. Any tips or advice are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading.

The forced sender address on the SMS user configuration page will actually enable you to achieve that, based on the documention of NOWSMS. However, I am having problem with this feature myself it still shows the phone number.

When you send an SMS message using a GSM modem, it is not technically possible to change the sender address. You are sending the message via your operator's SMSC, and the operator will always insert the phone number associated with your SIM card as the sender address. The only way to override the sender address is to send messages via an SMS service provider that supports this capability. Many providers support this but may have restrictions on which destination operators are supported for alphanumeric senders.

Hi, This is the support forum for the NowSMS software product. Using NowSMS, you would need a GSM modem in order to receive messages from the mobile operator network. For more general info on NowSMS and what a GSM modem is, please see http://www.nowsms.com/whatisnowsms.htm. To route messages from the GSM modem to your application, you would use NowSMS' 2-way SMS facility. More info can be found in the Documentation section of this web site. |
