Hi,

I can send MMS from my phone, mmsc accepts it and I'm getting notification indicator on the headset. That part works well.
But I cant download that message.
I tried to troubleshoot that problem: I copyed sent mms (which was succesfully delivered to nowmms and stored ) to other web server and I was able to download message.
(All IP's are public, no problems with firewall etc.)
Phone model is SonyEricsson T68i.

Thanks

What is the "Local Host Name or IP address" configured to be on the "MMSC" configuration page?

When the MMSC builds the URL to send to the phone, it uses this value as the host name in the URL.

And you've configured that same IP address as the MMSC on the phone?

It doesn't make any sense that the phone could connect to the MMSC to send a message, but not to receive a message.

To troubleshoot this further, I'd suggest contacting me via e-mail at nowsms@now.co.uk.

Put the gateway into debug mode by manually editing SMSGW.INI and adding Debug=Yes under the [SMSGW] section header. And similarly edit MMSC.INI, and add Debug=Yes under the [MMSC] section header. Then restart both of the gateway services.

Repeat your sending / retrieving attempts (I'd like to see your phone connect into the gateway to send a message to its own phone number preferably).

Then e-mail the SMSDEBUG.LOG and MMSCDEBUG.LOG to nowsms@now.co.uk.

Bryce,

Problem was in UAProf retival. I fixed that. Now everything works well.

Thank you very much, to pointing out how to enable debug.

I forgot about that problem, but that's a good one to have referenced out here for the future.

By default, content adaptation is enabled in the MMSC, and when a phone connects in to retrieve an MMS message, the phone sends a User Agent Profile (UAProf) header in to the MMSC. This is a URL, and if the MMSC doesn't already have it cached, it tries to fetch it.

This can cause a problem if the MMSC is behind a firewall, or has a DNS configuration error, that prevents it from accessing internet sites where UAProf's are stored (typically each manufacturer has their own UAProf web site).

If it takes awhile for the MMSC to realise that it cannot retrieve the UAProf URL, then it can cause the transaction to timeout, so that MMS messages cannot be retrieved.

The solution is to either fix the problem that prevents the MMSC from retrieving the UAProf URLs, or to disable the content adaptation features in the MMSC.

I have a similar problem when downloading MMS on Siemens S55. The MMSC has access to internet and I tried even switching OFF content adaption ( I assume its unchecking 'Enable Dynamic Image+Audio conversion' check box in MMSC tab). The S55 initiates dwonload and gives Network Error in between. Though I receive delivery notification on my sender phone.

All other hansets like Nokia 7650, 3510i work fine, even sending MMS from S55 is OK.

Hi Anonymous,

It sounds like a communication error is occurring between the S55 and the WAP gateway being used.

The WAP gateway requests the message from the MMSC (hence the delivery notification), but somewhere between the WAP gateway and the phone, the lines of communication breakdown.

What is the WAP gateway setting that you are using? What operator are you on?

I've got the same problem. SMS works well. When I try to send a MMS to my Ericsonn mobile, notification arrives to my mobile but I'm not able to download the MMS (connection error).
(I use a Falcom GSM/GPRS modem to send SMS/MMS)
thanks

Rik,

Take a look at Step 5 in the Quick Start Guide/Installation Guide for information on this type of issue. I've included a link to the guide below (it is also installed locally as a link on the programs menu along with the gateway).
