I'm attempting to integrate our systems with NowSMS, and from the message board it appears that we have to split binary messages over 140 bytes – is this the case? Or am I missing something (maybe that only applies to EMS)?

Also what's happened to all the manufacturers' guides? Is it just not used anymore?

I’m sure your reply will lead to more questions!

cheers,

Rik

Hi Rik,

Apologies for the delay in response.

NowSMS will automatically segment any text or binary messages that are longer than 140 bytes.

However, this automatic segmentation can be problematic for EMS messages ... because EMS messages can include UDH that exceeds 140 bytes by itself ... or EMS can also include UDH that references an attribute or object to insert at a particular offset within the current message segment.

So we do recommend that EMS applications perform their own segmentation ... unless they can use the EMS formatting functionality in NowSMS 2006 ... where you would let NowSMS build the necessary EMS UDH.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with manufacturer's guides ... maybe you can refresh my memory.
