We are nearing the end of our evaluation of NowSMS (thus far great experience!), but now we are in a technical uncertainty that could affect our business. Below is a description of our question:

We would like to know if we could assign alias shortcodes such that there is a fixed or master shortcode belonging to Permita (our company) followed by an extension of that shortcode (for our clients - we have 700+) - see example below:

123456789: first six positions is Permita's shortcode, with next three positions (789) to the client. Each client will be assinged an alias number (e.g. 789, 790, 791...)

We have 700+ clients where we do not want to purchase 700 shortcodes. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi,

You'd have to ask this question of your SMS service provider or mobile operator.

What you are suggesting would seem to make sense, but I can't say that I recall ever seeing this type of offering before.

The Nokia CIMD2 protocol does have a concept like this, where there can be an account prefix, and then you have different shortcode numbers beneath that prefix.

Nokia SMSCs are fairly uncommon outside of Scandanavia.

The best I can suggest is to ask your provider or mobile operator. This would indeed be extremely useful ... but I haven't encountered such a setup being available anywhere yet.

If you are working directly with a mobile operator, I would think there is a better chance that they might be able to support such a configuration. However, if you need to have cross operator short codes, I would be less optimistic.
