Hello Bryce,
I think you are doing a good job. I hope you will be able to help me with a problem I am having.
1) I have NOWSMS 2006 and several customer accounts. When my customers send their text messages many times the person receiving the message replys. However the reply is not routed back to the customer. How do I send these replys to the appropriate customer??? They would want to get the reply sent to an email address. I have gone through and read all I can but I just cant seem to get this done, please help me.

Hi Stephen,

This is almost impossible. Let me explain why ... and what the options are.

When someone replies to an SMS message, there is no information present in the reply to indicate that it is a reply to an earlier message. An SMS reply looks exactly the same as a completely new message.

We could (but do not currently) remember which user last sent an SMS to a particular phone number, and if a message comes back in from that phone number ... assume that the message should be routed to the last user (or e-mail address) that sent a message to the sender's phone number.

We don't do this ... because it is too imperfect.

Suppose you have multiple users sending SMS messages via NowSMS ... User A sends to phone user 1 ... then User B sends to phone user 1. Phone user 1 reads the message from User A and sends a reply back ... but NowSMS cannot know which messages this reply is for, it only knows that User B is the last person to send a message to phone user 1, so it would route the message to User B.

Like I said, in NowSMS, we don't do this currently, because it is not perfect, and we are concerned that messages would get routed incorrectly, making users upset.

But, this is an issue that we are willing to reconsider. Maybe in the future there could be a configuration option that enabled logic like I describe.

So what are the options that work today?

1.) Having one SMS sender address for every sending user that needs to receive replies. This way, we know that any SMS message that comes in to this phone number should be routed to a specific user.

2.) Sending MMS instead of SMS. With MMS, there is an option that can be enabled in the "MMSC Routing" definition ... "Embed Original Sender in Subject Header". When this setting is enabled, we can route MMS replies back properly to the correct original sender without any confusion or problem.
