Hi everybody, my name is alan, come from Hong Kong, maybe my English is not good enough, I hope u can get my meaning. Once people sent email to my email address, e.g. (alanhk@yahoo.com.hk) I hope, the sender information, subject and the body of the email (first 160 character) can be routed to my mobile by SMS, the Pop3 server of yahoo is pop.mail.yahoo.com.hk, but the program (nowsms) did not require me to fill in the pop3 server information. I have read the user guild from P.215 ( E-MAIL TO SMS/MMS Connectivity ) in detail / Step by step, but did not mention the requirement to fill in the pop3 information, just only fill in the local PC IP 192.168.1.10. I felt frustrate, can anybody help me ? I have connected my mobile to PC by USB cable successfully and can send SMS by http://127.0.0.1./8801 ? Thank you in advance and have a nice weekend !!

Hi Alan, NowSMS will not meet your requirement. It cannot poll a POP3 mailbox for messages. Maybe it will be able to do this in the future. Currently, NowSMS looks like a separate SMTP mail server. -- Malcolm Now Wireless Support

Hi Alan, I cant say that I know of a SMS Provider who offers that type of Email to SMS service, but I'm confident that more sophisticated SMS to Email and Email to SMS services are certainly the future. Kind Regards Richard Howard http://www.Phonenumbers4u.co.uk

Hi Alan, NowSMS is not designed with the idea of supporting a single individual user. It is designed to be a server application, typically deployed to support multiple users or a specialised application. It will accept e-mail as an SMTP server, and it can route those messages to SMS and/or MMS recipients. It can function as a POP3 server, accepting received SMS and/or MMS messages and converting them into an e-mail format so that they can be retrieved by a POP3/SMTP e-mail client. This functionality that I have described above allows an e-mail client to be configured to connect to NowSMS, using NowSMS as an SMTP/POP3 mail server ... so that an e-mail client can be used to send and receive SMS and/or MMS through NowSMS. The SMTP server capability also allows NowSMS to accept SMTP e-mail relayed from another mail server. However, there is no capability in NowSMS for NowSMS to function as a POP3 e-mail client, polling for messages on a mailbox residing on another mail server. This is a somewhat frequently requested capability, and we are considering it in the future. However, as I stated earlier in this thread, if your requirement is to poll a POP3 mailbox on another mail server, then NowSMS does not have this capability. Maybe this capability will be added in future versions. -- Malcolm Now Wireless Support |
