We are trialling NOWSMS with a GSM Modem and have enabled logging, so that we can see what messages users are sending out. This is fine for messages under 160 chars in length, but when a long sms is sent the log only shows the message as UDH= and DATA= followed by data strings which I believe are GSM 7bit encoded? My question is, how can I reconstruct the original ASCII message? Is there a program available to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. | |||

Hi Shaun, You are correct. If the message contains any non-text data (such as concatenation headers for a long message), then the log records the binary content of the message. Unfortunately, I don't know of any good tools for decoding this. I've seen decent tools for decoding a complete PDU, but that wouldn't really help you there. It wouldn't be difficult for us to have an option to log long text messages with their text instead of the binary data. I can't make any promises, but I'm going to submit this into our engineering queue and see what happens. -- Malcolm Now Wireless Support |
