Hi. I am testing NowSMS with a basic setup: The modem is a phone (RAZR) via Bluetooth. Everything is fine - the modem does work and the messages get sent and received. However, the outbound messages (sent from the local portal site, for example) take a long time - several minutes to get to the destination. If the message gets sent directly from the phone (=modem), the time is seconds. I am not sure if the delay is related to NowSMS or the modem driver? Or how I could diagnose it. Thank you very much

Start by looking at the smsout-yyyymmdd.log file. This records when messages were actually dispatched to and accepted by the modem. Is the delivery delay after this sending, or is there anunexpected delay before the message is actually sent? If it is the latter, enable the smsdebug.log (Serial # page of config), and let's take a look at it. -Malcolm

Malcolm, Thank you very much for your prompt reply! I checked the logs and found a whole bunch of errors that look like ------------------------------------------- 2007-02-06 07:32:43,SAR-1-21-2-1.req,127.0.0.1,1,ERROR - Error waiting for response from modem (2) -- Bluetooth Modem,Binary=1;UDH=050003210201;Data=786239E8E553F0C4BE6B58EE4EBBCFBC97D8A70381D AF9799C1D19BFDDEEF2988E4A81363C5E18849697CDBD93B9EE1ED3D36FB7AB9D9FC7D9ADF1DBED2 E8FE9279FB9EE1ED3D36FB7AB9D9FC7D9ADF1DBED2E8FE9BC57D8B7F1E940CCF79C0E1ABFDDEEF29 89E7EBB41F437A8999F4699A079596E2FCB41E4BA3CED3E83E2F5B23C0F4ABB41 --------------------------------------- AND ------------------------------ 2007-02-06 08:16:54,SAR-1-22-2-1.req,127.0.0.1,1,Retry Pending - ERROR - Error waiting for response from modem (2) -- Bluetooth Modem ---------------------------------- Now, ironically, yesterday afternoon those error messages went away and everything was orderly. However, the errors came back last night (why????) and appear in the log every 2 minutes or so. The time interval often seems fixed (up to a second?) I've made no changes. The messages are definitely delayed now. Thank you very much Dan

Just a thought. Could be a signal problem. I noticed in my setup if there is little signal, NOWSMS gets these kinds of errors and REQ files pile up in the Q directory only to be processed later at normal speed. Nothing was changed in my setup so that's the only thing I can think of.

Hi Daniel, Signal could be an issue. But are all of the messages having problems showing a format of "SAR-" in the filename? The GSM modem implementation in Motorola phones has a bug that prevents them from processing any messages that include user data header. This includes most binary SMS message formats, and also long text messages. Usually you get a CMS ERROR 304 instead of a timeout, however. -- Malcolm Now Wireless Support

Hi. We have the same problem with samsung c100. Binary messages can't be sent, only text sms. Dariusz |
