Is the Orange SPV locked into the Orange MMSC?

I can't find any options for configuring the MMS settings on the SPV.

Anyone?

Talk about a nightmare phone ... well, maybe nightmare is a bit harsh ... but at least it is a little awkward to configure.

Here's the deal. There are two areas of configuration relevant to the MMS settings.

If you're using the phone on Orange (which most people are unless you have an unlocked model), then you only have to contend with one of the configuration settings.

If you are an Orange subscriber, skip Step #1, and go right to Step #2.

Step #1: Configuring a WAP profile to use for MMS (if you don't want to use a pre-configured Orange profile, for example if the phone has been unlocked to use on another network).

From the main menu, select Programs. Scroll until you find the option titled "Settings" and select that option. Next select "Data Connections".

Select "Menu" then "Edit Connections".

Select "GPRS Connections", and then either Edit a connection, or use "Menu/Add" to define a new connection. If you want to configure WAP profile settings, you can do that here, or just configure a GPRS APN that you can access through your operator which would let you get to whatever WAP gateway you need to access to allow you to access your MMSC.

Step #2: Configuring the MMS Client Settings.

From the main menu, select Programs. Scroll down the menu by selecting More (you'll probably have to do this twice), until you see an option titled "Accessories". Select "Accessories". Under that menu, there should be an option titled "MMS Setup". Select that option.

The first option in the "MMS Settings" menu that is displayed specifies which connection settings to use. The MMS client on the SPV seems to only pick the GPRS APN (or dial-up information if you're not using GPRS) out of the connection setting. Assuming that you're on Orange, select the "Orange WAP" setting, otherwise select the WAP connnection settings you created in step #1.

"IP" refers to the IP address of the WAP gateway. If you're using the "Orange WAP" setting, enter 192.168.71.35. Otherwise, enter the IP address of the WAP gateway that you wish to use.

"Port" should be 9201.

"Mmsc Address" is the address for connecting to your MMSC, e.g., http://mms.now.co.uk/username=password. (It can be tough to enter some of these characters. Note that pressing the "#" key and holding it for a couple of seconds will display a menu of special characters that can be inserted.)

Note: It is very important that you include the "http://" in the "Mmsc Address", otherwise the SPV seems to make an invalid request of the WAP gateway. Also note that if you're using the "Orange WAP" access point, I believe that WAP gateway will only connect to content servers running on HTTP port 80, so your MMSC would need to be configured to use that port (which is the standard web port).

The other settings don't really matter ... set them to your preference.

Then select "OK" to save the settings.

I hope this helps!
