Dear friends,

I would like to use NowSMS as my SMPP server. I've installed NowSMS on my PC and it's now connected to a IR modem (I have in my list Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones).

I also have a SMPP client and I would like to connect it to NowSMS.

What I want to do is to be able to receive inbound SMS onto my SMPP Client through NowSMS. Is that possible???? How can I do the testing ?

I know you know the answer. Please be kind to share it with me :-)

Kind regards,

Agung

Hi Agung,

SMPP accounts that can login to the NowSMS server are defined on the "SMS Users" page of the configuration dialog.

When you create a user account on this dialog, it specifies how the user can login to NowSMS, with options of Web, SMPP and SMTP logins. So, you must check the setting to enable an SMPP login.

To route messages that are received over a GSM modem to one of these SMPP accounts, you check the setting "Route received messages to user via SMPP".

You must then define the "Recipient address(es) to route to this user". If all messages received on all modems should be routed to a single account, enter "*" here.

If you want to route messages received on different modems to different accounts, you can enter a comma delimited list (do not include any space characters in this list) of phone numbers here instead of "*". Note that in order to use this feature with GSM modems, you need to define the phone number for each GSM modem under "Properties" for the modem on the "SMSC" page of the configuration dialog.

Thanks, I did what you told me and it worked. My SMPP client can receive the SMS sent to it. But, why does it take long time to arrive? It seems like the queueing time is very long. Can we do something about this?

Hi Agung,

I'd have to see a log file to understand.

Generally speaking, this process should take only a few seconds.

Manually edit SMSGW.INI, and under the [SMSGW] section header, add Debug=Yes. Then restart the SMS gateway service. Repeat your sending an SMS to the modem, and then e-mail the SMSDEBUG.LOG to nowsms@now.co.uk, or post as an attachment here.

Agung,

In that log, I didn't see any messages get received by NowSMS.

I'd need to see a log that covers a period of time during which a message was received and routed to the SMPP client.

Please contact your mobile operator. They are the only ones that can enable GPRS on your account.

If you have GPRS active, but are looking for phone settings, since you have a Nokia phone, you can try the Nokia site at http://www.nokia.com/phonesettings.
