I noticed that the NowSMSC 2007 GW unbinds/binds as it's keep alive. I suspect this is OK to do, but can the NowSMSC GW support SMPP Link Enq to validate link integrity?

Hi Frank,

No ... that is not correct.

The "Keep Alive" that NowSMS uses in SMPP environments is the enquire_link command.

If you are seeing a lot of unbind/bind activity ... well, then that is strange. In fact, I can't really see a scenario where NowSMS sends an unbind packet, except during a shutdown.

Maybe the unbind is coming from the SMSC? The SMSC might be unbinding because they want to see an enquire_link more frequently than NowSMS is configured to send it.

I forget which carrier it is ... but there is one in North America where you have to send an enquire_link every 3 seconds or they disconnect you.

We'd have to look at an SMPPDEBUG.LOG for more information, but I'd suggest first that you try lowering the "keep alive" interval to see if that resolves the problem.

I had the keep alive set to default, which I did notice through my tcp trace that the NowSMS was performing unbind and bind requests. After changing the keep alive to 15 seconds, I do see the Enq_Link directives.

Thanks for the tip - I lowered the keep alive time.
