I am having lots of problems configuring my T200 to work with the gateway. I am starting to believe that it just won't work, even if my T68i works fine with the same data cable and both phones have built in modem. I can dial up and receive incoming connections through T200.

Any experience with this phone?

Thanks!

Hi Manuel,

I know for a fact that the person in the other thread gave up on the T200 and returned it. They ended up using a T68i.

Are you getting the same error message as the other thread? "Modem does not support PDU mode"

Can you try going into HyperTerminal and tell me what happens when you issue the following commands:

How about going into HyperTerminal, connecting to the phone/modem, and issuing the following commands:

ATZ

ATE0V1

AT+CSMS=0

AT+CMGF=0

What do you see?

It sounds like an error is occurring on the AT+CMGF=0 command, which sets PDU mode for sending/receiving SMS messages.

This is unusual, because based on the information that I see, the phone only supports PDU mode.

What happens if you issue the command:

AT+CMGF?

How about:

AT+CMGF=?

Maybe there is an answer in the responses to one of these commands.

Thanks Brice.

I coulnd't acomphish what you told me to. I think the modem has a issue that won't let it work with the gateway. This is from the help file of the modem drivers for the T200:

"[KNOWN ISSUES]
Using the "Query Modem" button on the "Diagnostics" tab in the modem
properties dialog sometimes fails. It fails if used before any
connection attempt using dial-up-networking has been made. The reason
for this is that the dialog bypasses the modem driver and communicates
directly with the phone via the serial port using the default port
speed, 115200 bps currently. The phone will most likely have reset its
port speed to its default, 9600 bps. As the modem driver is bypassed,
there is no functionality for negotiating the proper speed. However,
when the "Query Modem" button is used after a dial-up-networking
connection has been used, the phone is most likely still at 115200 bps
and the function succeeds."

I hope it helps

Interesting. I did not know that the "Query Modem" function bypassed the modem driver! You could try in HyperTerminal connecting directly to the COM port with some different modem speeds.

What is the error that you were getting? Is it this same "Modem does not support PDU mode"? If so, I'd really like to see a HyperTerminal log that showed the responses to those commands.

If you're receiving an error that says "Modem initialization error" ... then we've been making some changes in our modem handling when a modem driver is not used (e.g., direct to the COM port) ... in order to better auto-detect the speed.

If you send me an e-mail to nowsms@now.co.uk, I'll send you an update to try.
