All Nokia Series 60 (Symbian) phones (and all other Nokia phones manufactured in the last 4 years) only support sending SMS messages over the GSM modem interface. They don't support receiving SMS messages over the GSM modem interface. It's unfortunate, but Nokia does not include this support in their GSM modem interface. -- Des NowSMS Support

For best results, we usually recommend dedicated modem devices. (Devices that are designed to be modems, not phones with modem capabilities.) Wavecom, Multitech, iTegno and Falcom are good manufacturers with a variety of different models. When it comes to mobile phones being used as modems, SonyEricsson phones tend to have the best GSM modem implementation (avoid high end models that use UIQ/Symbian or Windows Mobile, which have limited GSM modem implementations). I've personally had good experience with various K and W series devices. I still usually have either a K750 or W800 in my travel bag for use with NowSMS. A colleague of mine has used a K800 for a long time, and traded up for a K850 recently, both of which work great with NowSMS. Older non-Series 60 Nokia phones were also good modems. We had a Nokia 6310 attached to a server in our office for years until the phone finally died. It's just that Nokia removed the receiving support in newer models. Motorola phones are problematic as modems ... they have a bug in their GSM modem implementation that prevents them from being able to send any binary SMS message types ... only simple text messages. Samsung/LG are "hit and miss". Some models have GSM modem support, others don't. I don't have enough information regarding which models have it, vs. which do not. Anyway, that's why we make NowSMS available with a 60-day trial, so that you have time to try different configurations and devices. -- Des NowSMS Support

Yes, the SE K750i is a good GSM modem. It can send/receive SMS ... and it can send MMS. (Receive MMS requires a dedicated modem device ... not a phone.) 2-way SMS can issue an HTTP request so that it can interact with a web server. NowSMS and IIS on the same server is not a problem. Just do not configure both NowSMS and IIS to use the same port. By default, NowSMS uses port 8800 for its web interface, which will not conflict with IIS. -- Des NowSMS Support |
