There is no mobile phone that I am aware of which can be used as a GSM modem for both sending and receive SMS and MMS.

Using a mobile phone as a GSM/GPRS modem will generally allow you to send and receive SMS, but to only send MMS.

This is because the MMS client (or WAP push receiver if the phone does not support MMS) intercepts MMS notifications and prevents them from being forwarded through the modem interface.

If you need to receive MMS with NowSMS, then you need to use a dedicated GSM/GPRS modem device, such as the Siemens MC35 (external) or Sierra Wireless Aircard 750 (PC Card).

Also, generally speaking, I would not recommend a smart phone as a modem. This is because as the phones get smarter, the designers have a tendency to remove what they considered to be "dumb features". For example, Nokia Series 60 based devices (Nokia 3650/7650/6600) can be used to send SMS and MMS, but they do not support receiving SMS over the modem interface. The SonyEricsson P800 does not support sending or receiving SMS over the modem interface (and I'm not sure about the P900, but I suspect the same is true with it).

If you are going to use a mobile phone as a modem, you're usually best off with a middle-of-the-road model, such as the SonyEricsson T68i or T610 ... or Nokia 7210. Just be aware that with a phone as the modem, you cannot receive MMS with NowSMS. As I mentioned above, that requires a dedicated GSM/GPRS modem device.
