In the new version of NowSMS, there's an option for "Multimedia WAP push". Can you explain?

I knew someone was going to ask this ...

I'll try to get a more complete description written up over the next few days.

But in a nutshell, the idea behind the "Multimedia WAP Push" function in the latest version of the Now SMS/MMS Gateway is to provide functionality similar in concept to MMS, but with the message being handled by the WAP browser instead of the MMS client. (This is advantageous for areas where the default operator settings do not allow content from external MMSCs.)

The way that it works is that you submit a message to the gateway which contains the multimedia objects (images, sound files, program files) that you want to deliver to the recipient.

Rather than packaging the content as an MMS message, the gateway packages the content as a WAP WML page with links to the embedded objects (and scaled down versions of the images appearing in-line). And the gateway sends a WAP push message over SMS to the recipient device with a URL pointer back to this dynamically created WAP WML page.

When the recipient loads the pushed message, they can view the content and retrieve objects.

As a side benefit, we've enabled the image scaling functions that are built into the MMSC, so that they will also work with images that are included in these multimedia push messages!

Try it ... experiment with it a bit ... and ask back if you have questions.
