Hello,

Actually, I am trying to experiment with my own website through which people will be able to download 1 ringtone for free. Actually, the thing is, most websites ask the user to send a ringtone code, say A15, to a particular number, say 7333 (as on www.rediff.com). I wanted to know the basic concept as to what happens in this whole procedure. I want to develop this whole thing from scratch myself without using any existing SDK's. }If you can help me out or suggest a good site then I will be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

This is the support forum for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway.

Using the NowSMS product, the way that you do this is that you configure NowSMS to receive messages from the SMSC link that you are using. NowSMS can then receive the message, and generate an HTTP request to a URL that you configure, passing the details about the received message. Your application can then decide whether or not it wants to respond back to the request, and what it wants to send back in response to this request.

Some information on this from the NowSMS documentation can be found at the following links:

http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/2_way_sms_support.htm

http://www.nowsms.com/support/bulletins/tb-nowsms-003.htm

The following link describes the types of SMSC connections that NowSMS supports for interfacing with the SMS provider:

http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/configuring_smsc_connec tions/index.htm

So for a simple system, you might be receiving SMS messages from a GSM modem. On a higher volume system, you might be receiving SMS messages from an SMSC using one of the SMS specific protocols, such as SMPP, UCP/EMI or CIMD2.

The GSM modem interface is a set of extended AT commands that can be used for sending/receiving SMS over a GSM modem. This interface is defined in the ETSI GSM 07.05 Specification, which can be downloaded from the ETSI web site, http://www.etsi.org. I'll leave you to a good search engine to find information on the other specifications, as I have to get back to supporting our customers.
