Hello all,

I am looking for a very reliable modem for sending/receiving SMS (I am not interested in MMS, Data, Voice) through NOW SMS.
I am currently using Nokia 30, but there are regular errors arising :-(

I read that you recommend in general the Siemens MC35, and - especially for my purpose (SMS sending/receiving) - the Wavecom Fastracks.

So here are my Qs:
1) Which Fastrack is the best for this?
2) Did you perform any tests concerning modem reliability?
3) Can I use just the cheapest fastrack one or must it be the newest for getting best SMS reliability?

Thanks, Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

The Siemens MC35 Terminal is very reliable for SMS. I usually recommend it for MMS over the Wavecom because Wavecom has some issues with different firmware versions required to properly support GPRS.

I've known people who have used both Wavecom and Siemens MC35 Terminal modems for years, and have found them to be very reliable.

Unfortunately, Wavecom does have a lot of different models. Unless you need GPRS support for MMS, a low end model should be fine.

Wavecom Fastrack is very reliable for both SMS and MMS. All the new fastrack modem supports GPRS and firmware does not have any problem.

You can purchase wavecom fastrack modem from Dinkum Technology Pte Ltd http://www.dinkum.com.sg
Any technical questions on wavecom, please send it to technical@dinkum.com.sg for better service. You can also visit http://www.dinkum.com.sg/supports/fwavecom.asp for FAQs.

Dinkum also selling API to send and receive SMS using Wavecom modems. Please visit http://www.dinkum.com.sg/products/hardware-wmapi.asp for more details.

Unfortunately, some distributors will sell Wavecom Fastrack modems that have been in stock for awhile.

The following discussion thread mentions firmware problems with GPRS functionality (required for MMS support) in Wavecom Fastrack modems. So if you experience problems trying to use GPRS functionality in a Wavecom modem, you may need a firmware update.
