Hi please help, at times when I restart the software and I send the message it shows sent but stays in the Q folder and then it goes at its own time, please advise why is this happening? I keep restarting the software to check the modem it is working fine as per the software.. and times it also says modem not connected line error what can be the problem?

Hi Ali,

I'd need to see some specific information from your log file. Specifically the SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG file would be helpful as a start.

If an error occurs when sending a message, NowSMS will not retry immediately, but instead waits some time before attempting again. The default behaviour is that the first retry is scheduled immediately, but subsequent retries are scheduled for "x" minutes later, where "x" is the number of failed attempts (up to a max of 10).

Is this a GSM modem?

Is the GSM modem in a location where it has a string signal for the mobile network? That can often present a problem delaying the sending out of messages.

Hi Ali,

This error code suggests a communication problem between the PC and the modem.

It basically means that the Windows modem driver won't initialise. You'd see a similar error if you went into the Windows Control Panel, Phone & Modem Options ... selected the Modem ... select Properties ... select Diagnostics ... then Query Modem.

The "Query Modem" function in the Control Panel tests to make sure that Windows can access the modem. (Make sure to shut down NowSMS before going into the Control Panel, otherwise the test would fail because NowSMS already has the modem open.)

One thing that "Query Modem" can tell you is whether or not another application already has the modem open. (The NowSMS error code will not distinguish between this error, and a general failure trying to access the device.)

For example, I have a test machine where I have a USB cable that I use for connecting the T68i.

I also have Bluetooth drivers installed in the PC for a PC Card Bluetooth card. I installed Nokia's PC Suite software for the Nokia 6600 on this PC. But I don't always have the Bluetooth card installed (only one PC card slot in this PC). Anyway, every time I plug in the USB cable, the Nokia PC Suite software detects it and opens the port. I have to shut down the Nokia PC Suite software before NowSMS can access the modem via the USB port.

So, it is possible that some other application might have the port open. The "Query Modem" function in the Windows control panel will tell you if that is the case.

Other than that, I would suspect a problem with the cable ... where it sounds like the driver is not detecting that you have plugged in the cable. That could be a problem with either the cable or the driver, I suppose.

Hi Ali,

Apologies for the delay. A combination of events kept me off the discussion board for too long.

I'm not sure why you are having so many problems.

The "80000018" error is a generic error. I get this 80000018 error on my PC if either the modem is not attached to the cable, or if another application has the COM port open (only one application can have a COM port active at a time).

After you receive this error, if you went into "Query Modem" in the Control Panel, I would expect Windows to also report an error.

I would suspect another application has the modem open (some modems ship with extra software for interfacing with the modem, and that could be in the way), or that the modem driver is associated with the wrong port, or there is a cable problem.

You could also try configuring NowSMS to connect to the COM port directly (e.g., select COM7 or whatever the appropriate COM port number is) ... and see if that works. If that works, but the modem driver connection does not, then it suggests a modem driver configuration problem (instead of another application having the port open).

Ali,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the problem sorted.

It does seem like I am hearing an increased report of problems with generic modem cables. A friend of mine recently bought a generic cable for the SonyEricsson T610, and it stopped working within a week. He ended up using Bluetooth for connecting the phone to NowSMS instead.

Meanwhile, I have purchased genuine SonyEricsson cables, and never had a problem. Same thing with Nokia cables.

I'm certain that there are high quality generic cables, but based upon a few experiences that I have seen like yours, it may be best to avoid generic cables ...

Thanks for the feedback on your experience.
