Hi there,

Anyone managed to get a GC75 card with Orange SIM working for MMS send and recieve (recieve in particular). I have SMS working without any problems, but MMS is not working.

MMS is enabled on the SIM as i tried the SIM in an 7650 and it works fine both ways...

Can anyone post their settings to check against?

Cheers!

Scurj

Hi Scurj,

This is Orange in the UK, right?

If so, the quick answer is that it is not going to work at present.

The problem is due to firewall issues around the configuration of the Orange MMSC.

The way that MMS works, the phone is notified of an MMS message by receiving an MMS notification message over binary SMS. That notification message contains header information about the MMS message, and a URL pointer that can be used to fetch the content of the MMS message.

NowSMS tries to fetch the URL pointer to receive the MMS message ... but where you run into problems on a number of operator networks (including Orange), is that the URL pointer is on a server that is on a private IP address inside the carrier network, or it is blocked off from the internet by a firewall. Basically, the only way to receive the URL is for the phone to receive it over GPRS, going through the operator WAP gateway as a proxy server.

We're adding some additional functionality in the next release of Now SMS/MMS, which has the ability to initiate a GPRS connection, and fetch the MMS content through WAP protocols via an operator WAP gateway. So we will have a solution in the near future ... but you're kind of stuck today because of the way that some operators chose to setup their network.

We hope to be releasing a beta version of Now SMS/MMS v5.0 out here quite soon that has configuration options to be able to get around the operator firewall. You can see this message thread for some more discussion with another user in a similar situation with one of their mobile operators.
