Hi,
does anybody know how to send ringtones on the Nokia 8290? I'd like to send it to a Motorola v60. Both are Cingular Wireless. If anybody knows how, please help! Thanks!

You have a ring tone on a Nokia 8290 that you would like to send to a Motorola v60?

Unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands and a background in hacking phones, I doubt you are going to get very far.

The first challenge is getting the ring tone off of your existing phone. While Nokia phones can accept new ring tones via SMS, I haven't seen any that had a user interface on the phone for sending an existing ring tone on the phone in an SMS message. (Nokia phones that support MMS, which the 8290 does not, will allow you to send a ringtone inside of an MMS message ... however if you try to select any ringtones that you received over SMS, the MMS client will refuse to attach the ringtone, saying that it is copyright protected.)

You might be able to find some software that could extract the ring tone from the phone over a special cable interface.

The next issue is that the ring tone formats are completely different between Nokia and Motorola phones.

You'd have to convert the ringtone from Nokia to Motorola format. This process is further complicated, because the base model V60 does not support EMS. Instead, it only supports a limited proprietary ring tone format. There are more tools available to convert Nokia ring tones to EMS than to the older Motorola proprietary format.

So unfortunately, I'd just have to say "Good luck" ...
