I have downloaded the trial version of the SMS/MMS Gateway software, and my phone is Motorola V303. I met the "Moderm does not support SMS" error when tring to use the downloaded software. Can anyone tell me that is it really my phone model is not supported by the software? If it is true, can anyone suggest a list of suitable phones? Thank you very much.

If your phone has a PIN configured for it, try removing the PIN. (On some devices, this error is wrongly reported when a PIN is configured.)

However, I suspect that the phone does not support SMS over the modem interface. Unfortunately, Motorola has very few phones that support the AT command set for SMS (defined in the ETSI GSM 07.05 specification).

By contract, many Nokia and most SonyEricsson phones includes this support. I'm partial to the SonyEricsson T68/T68i/T610/T630 family of products. Nokia Series 40 phones are also pretty good (7210/7250/6220/6820 ... see the list of Series 40 phones at www.forum.nokia.com, and the "Connectivity" field in the device specifications chart will tell you how the phone connects to the PC. Avoid Series 60 phones if you want to both send & receive SMS as they support sending only via the AT command interface.)

If you want to confirm that there is not a glitch in NowSMS on detecting whether or not the modem interface supports SMS, you can try connecting to the COM port with HyperTerminal (under Programs/Accessories/Communications). Connect directly to the COM port, hit enter a few times, and type ATZ then enter ... if you receive an OK response back then you are talking to a modem. NowSMS uses the following commands to test to see if the phone supports SMS:

AT+CSMS=0
AT+CMGF=0

If the first command fails, then the modem does not support the SMS interface. If the second fails, then the modem does not support a binary SMS interface.
