I need to set up a system to emulate an SP (Vodacom, SA) MMS environment. Thus I need to submit an MMS, retrieve it and measure the delay. As far as I can tell, I cannot use NowSMS in it's default configuration for this. Any idea on how I can achieve this?

Thanks in advance

Jannie,

Why not?

Where exactly are you experiencing a problem?

The only additional things that you might need to be able to do a complete emulation are a WAP gateway, and any infrastructure to allow the phone to make an IP connection.

On the NowSMS side, I usually recommend that people work through the steps in the "Quick Start Guide" (or the same information is installed with the gateway in the NowSMS program group under the name "Installation Guide").

Work through the SMS steps first, even though you are interested in MMS ... as the SMS functions need to be working in the gateway in order to be able to use the MMS functions.

If you get stuck, let me know where you are stuck.

Refering to Step 4b - Define an MMSC User
I wondering whether the setting can handle unlimited user?

Bryce,

Maybe I'm lost but what I believe I should be testing is what a 'normal' hanset user would experience.

In Vodacom's case, the sender would submit a MMS that will be uploaded to the network, from where the recepient would receive the SMS and subsequent download, i.e. the MMS will go from the sender handset to the network to the recipient handset.

With the nowsms gateway the MMS will be downloaded directly from the gateway, so I'll be missing parts of the path, especially the 'caching' bit on the network.

I suspect I need the new version of the gateway that will allow MMS submission to the network?

Jannie,

Ok. I understand, yes you do need the new version.

I got confused when you said that you need to emulate a service provider's environment. If you were emulating their environment, you'd have an MMSC of your own. But I understand what you mean now. We should be on target for a beta of that new release between July 10 and July 16.

Anonymous,

Referring to Step 4b ... unlimited users is not a problem, but there has to be a way that the users get registered into the MMSC.

Take a look at the following URLs for automatic MMS user registration procedures:
