With the retrieved feature we found that NowSMS is duplicating the messages the system sends to the mobile phones. If we desconnet the RETRIEVE feature, then the amount of FAILED MESSAGES increases dramatically. Do you have an idea of what's happenning?

Hi,

I need more of an explanation.

I don't even know what the "retrieved feature" is that you are referring to.

Please explain how you are using NowSMS ... and what the features are that you are enabling or disabling.

Any error messages related to these "FAILED MESSAGES" would also be helpful.

Hi Des, concerning the duplication of the messages, is as follows: even though some of the messages have been sent, they go to RETRIED and they're sent over and over dependeing on the setting on RETRIED (1, 2, 3, etc.). Any idea of what causing this problem? Also, could you clarify the following: the FAILED and RETRIED messages respond to the condition of the modems or to an answer or lack of it of the Mobile Phone Operator?

This information is somewhat helpful.

So you are sending messages outbound using a GSM modem (or multiple GSM modems).

What do the error messages in the SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG say when the messages are retried. (You will see "Retry Pending --" and an error message ... or "ERROR --" and an error message.)

Basically, the modem is returning an error ... or failing to send any response back, so NowSMS assumes that the modem did not send the message, because it did not get an "OK" response.

Is this a new installation? If not a new installation, has anything changed?

application/octet-streamSMSOUT-yyyy-mmdd.LOG
SMSOUT-20090709.LOG (4590.0 k)

Des,yes we´re sending SMS via 14 modems in 2 sets of 7 modems through two USB HUBS. I've attached a SMSOUT-yyyy-mmdd.LOG with ERROR 500 AND 515, and also RETRIED and FAILED.
Could you explained what are ERROR 500 AND 515 Please?

Question: When a modem send a SMS, does it has to necessarily receive a confirmation from the Phone operator?

Thanks

What is the modem model? Maybe we can find a technical manual for the modem that provides more details.

These are error codes being returned by the modem.

"CMS ERROR 500" literally means "Unknown Error".

"CMS ERROR 515" is a manufacturer specific error code.

Unforutnately, I think two of your modems have gone into some sort of unstable state where they are returning these errors on every sending attempt.

I'd suggest trying to reset them.

In recent versions of NowSMS, we've added logic where if a modem consistently returns a CMS ERROR on every send attempt, we issue software commands to attempt to reset the modem.

However, I don't know if that would make a difference for you or not. These modems may require a hardware reset (power on/power off).

Thanks Des

We're trying all possibilities to solve the problem. If there's any further aspect I'll get back to you.
